Question about Vizio SV420XV 42 in. LCD TV
This TV is hooked up to an antenna with a booster. In the last week, it has frozen two times. The first time it was 1 1/2 hrs. later that I returned into the room and saw it frozen on the news station at 8:29 AM My 42" Vizio has frozen twice in the first two weeks we've owned it. I don't think reception or signal quality is the problem, as it's hooked to cable TV. djchillsync's solution doesn't apply.
Digital tv (or DTV) off the air is different from the old analog type tv signal. Both use basically the same type antenna, I use UHF on my dtv and that works. It used to be if the signal was weak you got a snowy picture, mostly white and black speckles. With digital tv signal there is no snow, the picture instead freezes and the motion of the tv picture stops (pixels may get mixed up too), it can't read what is next in the video so it stops to figure it out. When it gets a better signal it works, but you may have to redo the basic search for stations for the automatic configuration to get the best picture for the station to work good. A digital TV has a search function from the remote, dtv converter box has it too.

Your statement is confusing. Why? because you stated " This tv is hooked up to an Antenna with a Booster", then you said it's connected to Cable Tv. I will answer this both ways for you.
If your on an Outside Antenna or Rabbit Ears, even with a booster, if the signal is not good prior to getting to the antenna then a booster only amplifies what it see's and that may be as we call it, "garbage". In a HDTV the freezing can happen when that situation is at hand, however if you are on Cable and we know the signal is clean ( we hope? ) then the problem is with the software in the set and should be looked at by a service center, or if it's right out of the box then I would exchange it.
In digital technology there's no maybe, it's yes or no! If the signal is not what's required, then you get what your experiencing now, IF, there's nothing wrong with the set, and there may be. I just repaired another brand doing the same thing and it was the Main Control Module. So, I hope I helped you in isolating the problem. Please keep me posted...
