I have a Plextor 1210S that works fine with CDR media but when it comes to CDRW, it become a nightmare.
The CDRW media(Verbatim) that come with the drive works ok with Plextor (sometime give me error) but the one I brought here(RICOH) is giving me a lot of probleme. Fail to erase and write cdrw. In nero, it always gives me this error "Power Calibration Error". I try to unplug some of my devices to give more power to 1210s but still no go. Any suggestion???
I have tried upgrade the firmware from 1.01 to 1.02, still no go.
Just try a different brand of media. My TDK 121032A doesn't even know there is a disc in the drive when I use Imation 4X-10X 74 Minute discs!

In message < <linglan_ Odd - mine is perfectly happy with Ricoh 10x CD-RW High Speed media, and that media is on Plextor Europe's recommended media list for the PX-W1210TS
On the back of the case it says "Made in EU" and there's a white box that says in black print:
CDRW 74 10x 790972
I'm using 1.02 firmware (also Windows 2000 Pro SP2 and an Adaptec 29160N with 3.10 BIOS and the FMS 4.0a SP3 drivers, not that any of this should make the slightest difference).
This media was bought in the UK from dabs.com - GBP18.79 including VAT for a 10 pack, "Quicklinx" Y8LWS. I'm impressed at this price.

Mine works well with both the Verbatim 10X RW media which came with the drive and with Sony 4X RW media. Other RW media brands not yet tested.

Look for and try different brands of CDRW media that specifically say "High Speed" on the discs. Power calibration errors mean the drive is not getting within spec results on a short test burn and read it does to a specially designated area of the disc before burning. It can mean poor media matches, dirty optics, or even failing drives; but not anything to do with insufficient power supply to the drive.

This is sometimes so: Some cd-writers don't like some media - return the media and try another kind of media!

JustLink CD Writer 52x24x52x, Model ME-320X, sold by Mad Dog Multimedia, Inc. This is an external CD Rom Drive that I picked up at a yard sale and I need drivers for it on a 3 1/2 floppy so I can use on an old laptop running Windows 98 that works perfectly...just no CD Rom.

PX -W4824A I had the old uninstalled EZCD Creator 4 from XP SP3 and had to use the delete the Upper & Lower Filters in the registry fix to get Device Manager to remove the yellow triangle exclamation points from my CD drives problem. Once the drives were recognized both in Device Manager & Windows Explorer (this was happening to an old Creative DVD-ROM drive, too) neither would acknowledge a CD in the tray "Please insert a disk into drive #:" even with a formatted or recorded audio CD or an OEM data / software CD. After a firmware upgrade to the Plextor and an uninstall / reinstall in Device Manager for both they will both read a CD sometimes but most of the time they will NOT. Some times if the CD was in the drive on reboot they won't read it until the disc is ejected and the tray re closed. Plextor sometimes identifies in Windows Explorer as CD-RW Drive but mostly as CD Drive. Autoplay also executes intermittently. Help will be greatly appreciated.

I installed my old plexwiter on my newer computer and the drive slows my computer down and it will not read any disks. Sometimes it will read music CD's and play them, but it will not reasd any other CD's, software CD's included. Sometimes it will not read any at all. I do have the driver. Sometimes it will freeze my computer, but if I open it and close it my computer ressumes. Also if I do this and just leave it open it will not close after a whils. Please Help.
