Question about Dryers

Dryer overheats and shuts off

I bought a dryer from someone recently and when I hooked it up it will run for about 4 min and then shut off for about 6 min and then start up again for 4 and so on. The dryer is getting too hot and shutting itself off. There is nothing wrong with the dryer it's the vent hose that leads to the outside of the house. When the hose is on is when it gets too hot and shuts off but if you take the hose off it will run its full cycle. I have made sure that the hose is free of lint and the vent is clean also. I don't know if I need to make the vent on the outside of the house bigger to allow more air out but the air is getting backed up somehow, any ideas?

Hi,

I would take and get a lint brush and clean the hose and I would also make sure you clean the pipe that is running on out side plus make sure the flap is opening up outside like it should .

What does ERR-1 message indicate?

Check the exhaust pipe for a clog. Outside of the machine by the vent you should feel the rush of hot, moisture laden air coming out. When the hot exhaust does not leave the machine as intended and collects, raising the temperatures inordinately and causing it to overheat and shut down.

U might try bypassing the temp limiter sensors to see if unit continues to operate.

Ge adora dryer model dhdvh52ef0ww runs for about 5 minutes then cuts off

Inside the back and the bottom of your dryer are several ( From 2 to 6 ) "overheat thermostat switches".
One of these is doing it's job really well.
These are designed to prevent your dryer from overheating and catching fire.
I suspect one of them is failing, and needs replacement.
Someone handy with electrical testing tools and mechanic's tools need to take it apart and check these to find the "bad" one.
While they have it all apart, it should need a really good cleaning inside.
Be blessed.

Dryer runs for 20 secs or so then shuts off

Dryers today are having more and more safety switches to shut them off in case of overheating, and to prevent fire.
Some are even up to six overheat switches and a fuse.
Unfortunately, along with the safety, came sloppier construction, which meant lots more lint collecting inside your machine.
Someone needs to take the whole dryer apart and clean it, because the accumulation of lint is causing one of the overheat switches to "pop".
I have cleaned several in the last few months that had up to 2 shoe boxes of lint inside.
Be blessed.

Does it shut down completely? If it does, and the timer ceases turning, your problem may be a blocked vent pipe or Lint buildup.Your high limit switch is designed to kill power to your heater coils and sometimes the motor in case of overheat.

The unit shuts down after using for 4-5 minutes and I smel burnig

Sadly, light duty machines as yours do overheat and shut off. Shredders are rated for run time. An example: 4 min run time with 60 min off to cool down. I could not find your machine's rating. However, given the 10 page volume I would guess the rating close to the 4 min on.
High volume shredders are rated as continuous run. They should never over heat.

Dryer overheats and shuts off- vents have been cleaned and button on back has not reset

Common problem.
You probably need to clean
your dryer vent. Dryer vents
should be cleaned every couple of years to
prevent them from being clogged with lint. You can check the air-flow by going outside where the vents terminate. What's probably happening is on sensor dry, there's a moister sensor that tells the machine to shut off when there's no moister. The hot is is being pushed back into the dryer and confusing the sensor. That's why it's working on timer dryer because that option bypasses the moisture sensor.

I'm pretty sure that's it. Good luck.

Hi have a7yr old dryer vent is clean dryer run 10 mins and fire stops and dryer runs

you probably have a clogged vent pipe.

This causes the unit to overheat and shuts down the burners.

Clear all lint from the pipe, the dryer exit inot the pipe, and the pipe exit from the house.
