Your computer will also use PC 4200, which is cheaper if you can find it. If not, try crucial.com, they have cheap prices on PC 5300. You can get 2GB for about $30.

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

So, to answer your question, your PC2700 memory will not work as that is DDR and you need DDR2.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution as fixya. :c)

I have this ASUS P4GE-MX Motherboard. I want to upgrade my ram from DDR 256 MB TO DDR 1 GB. For temporary purpose, I tried another 256 DDR ram with 400 MHZ, but I had some problem with booting my system....

Hello, The Motherboard's specifications mention that it uses DDR Ram, while the FSB runs at 400MHz. That means that any kind of DDR memory will work up to the maximum of 2 GB (it has 2 slots, so it's up to the max of 2x1GB DDR sticks).
There's no issue with the speed, actually the faster you can get the better results you will have. Try looking for 1GB DDR 400MHz (preferably two of them, if you want to max out the capacity and since it's kind of cheap to do so).
The one you tried and didn't work, might be due to a faulty RAM module.

I have an emachine T5026. Emachine tech swears this machine only supports pc2700 ram but the stickers on the factory installed ram says pc3200 256mb x 2 so i bought 2 memory masters pc3200 1gb x 2 sticks....

PC3200 is backwards compatible with PC2700. Meaning you can install PC3200 into your motherboard but it won't run any faster than would PC2700, however it will not cause any harm and should work fine.

Emachine's would say you need PC2700 most likely because they're trying to sell you some.

One of your new memory modules or the memory slots on your computer may be defective. I recommend installing a single stick of memory and booting your system. If it is successful then shut it down, disconnect the power and install another stick. Boot again and keep doing so and by process of elimination identify the bad memory stick or the bad memory slot.

This is the "likely" cause and isn't too uncommon.

Good luck.

I PLUG IN 2 NEW 512 MEM PCBS & WLL NOT BOOT. 1 BEEP FOLLOWED BY 3 BEEPS FOLLOWED BY 3 BEEPS FOLLOWED BY 1 BEEP. THEN NOTHING.

Remove the "new" RAM.
Look at the labels for PC2100 or PC2700 or PC3200,
or for DDR266 or DDR333 or DDR400.
Compare with the label on one of the "old" sticks of RAM.

Be sure that the labels on the "new" RAM are "equal" or "higher" than the labels on the "old" RAM.
For example, if the "old" RAM are DDR333, then you can use DDR400, but your computer will not accept DDR266.

Reinsert one of the sticks of the "old" RAM.
Does it still beep multiple times?
If not, then the new RAM is *NOT* compatible with your computer.

RAM compatibilty

No, DDR 400 will not work. The best thing you can do is call Dell and give them your information. Model number and that kind of information and let them tell you what kind of ram you need. If you put the wrong type of ram in your machine it could cause major damage. There are so many different kinds of memory out there, not to mention high and low denisity. Your machine may use PC2700 high density and if you try to use PC2700 low density it will not work. One other thing that you can try is uninstall a stick of your ram and write down everything on the stickers and then go to some place like kingston memory and use their memory locator to find what you need.

make sure they are compatible with your computer, there are alot of electronic stores (circuit city) was the worst at it, but will sell you the wrong ones and say they are backwards compatible.. usually P4 2.8 can run PC2700, some run PC2100, which im hoping yours is PC2700... if so, make sure they are NON-ECC also... i would just get 2 1 gig PC2700 DDR 200pin sticks and stick em in... good luck

A7s333 motherboard with 3 dimm ram slots 2 x 1GB pc2700

That board type does not show on the ASUS web site. I think that your problem may be incompatibility of the RAM with the board specs. Placing faster RAM on the board will not make it go faster.

I can't recognize what specific RAM this motherboard accepts..

Dear sir,

In reply to your post- Generally now a days we use DDR400 RAM(DDR 1) for this type of motherboard. So DDR 400 RAM is More compatible then other RAM,you can use this RAM for your motherboard to obtain good performance.

Intel D845GBV Motherboard Problem

PC1600 runs at 200MHZ and PC2100 runs at 266MHZ..

Since your motherboard only supports a max of 266MHZ, I would recommend that. (not to mention that PC1600 is pretty much obsolete)..

2nd, you motherboard supports a MAX of 2GB Total ram.. So, you could install 1GB + 256MB.. But why not go for 2xGB?

The price for a 1GB stick of PC2100 is around $75-125 CAN. Not soo cheap anymore...
