please ping your router gateway, for seeing default gateway you take command prompt and type ipconfig, there you can see your default gateway then type ping gatewayip (eg: ping 192.168.0.1) if you are getting reply from that gateway your computer communicating with your router. If you are getting request timedout then there is a problen in communication. If you are getting the reply then you just ping google (ping www.google.com).getting reply the connection to the internet is fine.If not there is problen in internet connection in the router.

If you can't see your network name in the list then the wireless portion of the router is bad. How can I test the router to see if it is bad

Try to ping it.
Connect a wired computer to the router Press windows key and r type cmd and press enter type ping 192.168.1.1 (or) ping 192.168.0.1 If you get a response back, that means the computer can contact the router, and it may not be bad. If you can, try resetting it by holding on the reset button on the back with a pin for 5-10 seconds.

How do I ping a computer on my linksys router

Generally, you can't, unless you know the IP of the remote location, and the router is set to allow tunneling to it's internal LAN.

What are you trying to do that you need to ping a computer not on your network?

The modem light is off on my Motorola modem.

Ah, someone that actually makes use of the word "nor" I would first unplug the CAT-5 cable that goes from your modem into your router to check that it's not your router's fault. To make sure that every computer that is plugged into the router is on the network you should PING each computer to see if you can reach it.

Find out the IP of your computer by clicking Start then Run then type in CMD. Once your in CMD (Command Prompt) you should type in IPCONFIG. That command will give you a response with your IP Address in it. Take that IP and go to another computer in your network and use the PING command in CMD by typing PING 192.168.1.??? in CMD.

If your PINGing session is successful then it's a problem with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and should be handled by contacting them and having the problem fixed because it's an issue at their end. If it's not it's a problem with your router and can be handled by having a specialist come to your home and to fix/set up your network or I could remotely control your computer to fix it.

It's your choice, but the specialist will cost and I won't.

Thanks,
Brandonmxb

I have a Linksys WRT54GL wireless-G router connected to a cable modem and a PC using Ethernet cables. The wifi function is working fine with my two notebooks but I cannot get the computers to connect to...

Please
  1. Verify File and Print Sharing is installed for the wireless network card on each computer.
  2. Try pinging each computer.
  3. Try doing Start, Run, and in the browse line type \\and the ip address other computer. For example, if computer B has the ip address of 192.168.1.3 from computer A, do Start, Run and type in \\192.168.1.3 to see what that brings up.
Please post back if you have any questions.

Laptops stopped connecting wireless

how about to reset your router and setup it the proper address by your internet provider..
laptops only connect to the router automatically if you enable it reconnect and detect its network without manually connect internet, this procedure can see in your wireless properties by enabling it.
And also ask your internet provider if theres a problem also with their internet connection.
Good luck!
