Electronic moisture sensing Kenmore stackable dryer, smells like gas when it runs only. Heats up. I opened it up and looked in back, I can see a red glow then it shuts off, kind of intermitant. Whats...

This is usually caused by lint on the heating element, You should have it cleaned out by an appliance person or if you feel comfortable you can unplug the unit, remove the back panel and try cleaning it out your self. you should also try cleaning as much as possible from behind the lint filter inside the drum. Hope this helps.

Dryer heats intermitantly and smells like gas when it doesn't get hot . Is this a bad igniter issue?

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

HI, Check the following to address this issue further.

1. Venting
Make sure the dryer vent hose, as well as the rest of the vent duct, is not clogged.

Unless regular maintenance is performed, chances are there is a lot of lint accumulated inside the dryer. This might affect the drying time and could be a fire hazard. Make sure to have your dryer cleaned regularly. Because this might involve taking most of the dryer apart, it is recommended to have a qualified appliance repairman perform this task. The blower housing should be disassembled, and cleaned in this case.

2. Thermostat(Secondary Cause)- Highly unlikely in your case, but possible
There are a couple of cycling thermostats inside the dryer. If one of them breaks down, it might affect the dryer's performance. Replace the defective thermostat. These thermostats are located in the dryer vent duct and sometimes mounted on the blower assembly as well.

On gas dryers an intermitting heat problem is almost always the coils on the gas valve. http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/
