Ff4 won't start up, blue screen with text " initil. slot memory"?
Got a used DS off a friend, i bought FF4 for a good price off ebay but it won't work. Somethings fish! When i try to run it it goes to a blue screen and quickly flashes the error "initilize slot memory" i think, but its gone so fast i can't be sure. It then goes black and sits there.

Hi there, this is a problem to do with the card reader slot, The pins within them become worn or bent and do not make a good contact with the game cartridge any more. You can buy a new card reader slot off of ebay for around £4 but they are quite difficult to fit. If you have good soldering skills you can do it but I would advise googling for a guide that shows you how to do it. You can follow my tip for actually taking apart the DS. If you have a friend who is good at soldering I am sure they would be able to do it for you.
Well it sounds like he's using something like an r4 which is just a ds adapter for a memory card. You'll probably need to take the memory card from the adapter and with another adapter or if you have built in card reader plug in to pc. It's most likely a micro sd.
Try the paper shim trick first. It could be that the older NDSL's slot one contacts have become "sprung" and aren't making good contact.
Cut a piece of paper slightly narrower but longer than the R4. Put it on the non-contact side of the R4 and insert the R4 (with the paper on the back) into slot 1. It may increase the thickness of the R4 such that the slot 1 fingers now make contact.
I dont like to give you bad news but this is a difficult part to find and replace without some technical knowledge, and even if you get it, i.e. from a parts NDS, and with the technical knowledge, its difficult as this part is surface mounted and have many pins to desolder.
Actually I dont remember how difficult is it to put the pins of SLOT-1 in place by opening the device though you can try that as first option (find some open NDS pictures, the guides are also online everywhere).
You can also use a SLOT-2 (GBA) game cartridge for backups (ROMS) with flash memory as many options are online too but may be dificlt and you may need to do some proccedures as you cant use the SLOT-1 (NDS games).
The other option is to buy a broken NDSL somewhere like ebay making sure the main board works good, as you dont worry about broken hinges, cracked screens, etc. Or last pick, sell it for parts.
