Question about D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router (DI-514)

1 Answer

Weird problem. IE works, but other internet-using programs don't

Well, I don't know what to do, that's why I'm here :P
In my house there are 3 Computers, all conected to Internet using
the D-Link Wireless conection.
Everything was fine until today, when suddendly Utorrent stoped working, and at the same time, my little brother's Online game stoped too. I don't think the Utorrent problem is caused by not having seed/peers.
The thing is, Internet Explorer is the only thing that works, as I am writing in this web now.

Please, if someone has an idea, some advice, or an answer, I would be very grateful. (:

thanks

The firewall is turned on on you router and can be disabled by changing the firewall settings on your router. utorrent and online games have to use ports for incomming and outgoing data transfer and should be listed as exceptions on your router. go into utorrent options and check what port is being used and do the same for your brothers game if you want to keep the rest of the ports blocked from potential attacks.

wifi is a connection that is wireless. you don't need to connect your laptop directly to your router using ETHERNET cable so you can access the internet anywhere in your house

You have to configure port forwarding in your router. Do you know what ports are used by "Buddy for CLZ Barry" and "First Class" (it probably uses port 21)? After you figure out the port numbers, follow the port forwarding steps documented in the router manual. Here's the link to the router manual:

Yahoo isn't listed as a possible default browser-how do i make it my default browser

Yahoo doesn't offer a browser of their own. You can make it the default homepage of any browser.

Internet Explorer, Firefox (Mozilla), Chrome (by Google) and Opera are browsers most commonly used with Windows. Safari is the Mac OSX/iOS browser.

In Internet Explorer to make a page the default homepage, open the Tools menu. (Click on the Gear icon or Tools (press Alt to show the menu)) Then select Internet Options. In the General tab, you can either set the current page as the default homepage or enter a specific URL to be the homepage. Click Apply to save your changes and click OK. When you restart IE, the listed page will be the homepage.

In Firefox, click Tools and then Options. Under the General Tab, you will be able to enter your homepage choice.

Similar options exist for other browsers but I don't know their toolbars.

If you can't reset the homepage, either malware has been installed or a malware blocker is actively preventing you from changing the homepage. (A malware blocker should pop up with an "I've stopped this action" message. Then you should be able to disable it to change your homepage and then re-enable it.)

I hope this helps.

(Yahoo does have their own IM program but I don't know the program. For Windows, you can select the default program in the Control Panel. For Win7 Start > Control Panel > Programs > Set Default Programs and Set Program Access and Computer Defaults.)

My proxy is not functioning...i just want to know what are the programs or any software can fix it...can you help me please?

proxy... this is not a 'service/program' that end users can work with or fix. hell 80%+ of the globe don't even know what it is...
how do you know it's broken? or have you jumbled a word out of context here?
your Router (wifi point if you will); does not perform Proxy features; your internet provider might do... so if you genuinely do mean "Proxy"; then speak to your internet service provider on this issue.

Google chrome appears when I open internet explorer not sure if i started to install but it states to download don't want it can't fine it in the control panel to unistall HELP

Chances are you have accidentally chose Google chrome as your default web browser. To correct this problem you need to run the actual internet explorer. you can find the program on your hard drive. it should be here:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
when Internet Explorer (IE) opens up at the top it should see something similar to this:

Click yes.

If you don't see this message then press the alt button and move the mouse cursor to Tools then in the drop down menu select Internet options
avatar23454_12.jpg

go to the programs tab and click make default.
avatar23454_13.jpg

Then afterwards go to the control panel on the start menu and click it.

Choose add/remove programs or uninstall a program depending on what version of windows you have:

locate Google chrome and uninstall it

My number does not register anymore & i cannot use my magic jack in calling as i use to. give me back my number & help me how to call to usa.

Try deleting browsing history in your browser.
If you're using Internet Explorer (IE),
- Open up any IE window.
- Go to SAFETY>DELETE BROWSING HISTORY
- And then restart your computer.

You can also try RESETTING Internet Explorer. It will put all of the IE's settings to default but it will not erase your bookmarks.
- Just open up any IE window.
- Go to TOOLS> INTERNET OPTIONS> A window will popup.
- Go to ADVANCED Tab and click RESET.

You can also try using SYSTEM RESTORE to go back to a date where you were able to use your computer normally.
- Just click START
- Type SYSTEM RESTORE on SEARCH PROGRAMS AND FILES Bar
- Hit ENTER and then just follow the steps.

If that doesn't work, there may be a third party software that's causing the issue or it could be a virus attack.

Hope this helps.

Loosing wireless internet

Hi,

Try adding these to your trusted sites in IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security - Trusted Sites.

https://www.facebook.com/

http://www.facebook.com/

What antivirus/antispyware/security product do you have on machine? Include any you have EVER has on this
machines including those you uninstalled (they leave remnants behind which can cause strange issues).

If no joy something maybe blocking it.

Start - All Programs - Accessores - System Tools - IE with no Addons - does this work better?

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Tab - click Restore then click Reset - Apply / OK

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security Tab - click reset all zones to default - Apply / OK

Close and restart IE and/or IE with no addons

any better?

IE - Tools - Manage Addons (for sure disable SSV2 if it is there, this is no longer needed but Java still installs it
and it causes issues - you ever update Java go back in and disable it again.) Look for other possible problems.

Windows Defender - Tools - Software Explorer - look for issues with programs that do not look right. Permitted
are usually OK and "not permitted" are not always bad. If in doubt about a program ask about it here.

Could be a BHO - BHOremover - Free - standalone program, needs no install, download and run - not all
are bad however some can cause your issue (Toolbars are BHO's)

I think you are trying to set up router using the Cd program or Linksys Easy Link advisor program. This program has some bugs. It will show you that you are not connected to the router but you are online. Some times it will show you that there are some other people connected to your wireless network but there are not.
So if you are trying to run that program then you don't need to use that program. Even if you call the Linksys tech support number , no one will give you proper answer for that.
you can set up the router manually without the CD.
