Problem getting IP assigned

By Gary10 - usenet poster

Hi all,

At startup, my computer doesn't get an IP-address assigned. Signal is
perfect, but I don't get IP. The other computer WAS fine, but after resetting
an reconfiguring the router, now has the same problem.

Over a broadband internet connection, I have a Motorola modem and a D-Link
router, meant to connect two laptops (both XP) to the internet. The router is
configured for dynamic IP delivery, and is secured by WPA-PSK. My computer is
protected by AVG Free Antivirus and Sygate firewall.

Sometimes 'repair' in the pop-up menu of the taskbar icon resolves the
problem, but mostly only after switching off the power of modem and router or
eventually after connecting wired. Wired connection most of the times is no
problem.

I tried already a lot of standard procedures (resetting modem and/or router,
cloning MAC adress, ...) with no success.

Can anyone help?

Well,

It's not so bad - at least the comp is registered on access point (router),
the only thing which doesn't work is TCP/IP :-)

The only thing I see is checking WZC (if disabled) and then starting again
from simpliest to more complex...

Thx

Hi,

I have similar problem: the environment is 1 Thomson 780 WL router-DSLmodem
plus 2 laptops.
I can't get my ASUS wl-100g PCMCIA card on Compaq Evo to work properly with
my Thomson: I've managed to get the message "Connected" (with WEP and also
now WPA), but IP doesn't work: ASUS doesn't see DHCP server on Thomson;
assigning static addresses also doesn't work. Anyway, DHCP and all the rest
work fine via UTP cable! I've shut down the firewalls (Windows firewall,
McAfee firewall) but no luck.
At the same time, my business laptop works just fine!

I've tried with new ASUS drivers and UTILITY software, but no luck.

Thx for your help,
O.

I've managed to achieve solid wireless connection with my older Compaq
laptop and ASUS WL-100g WLAN card via WEP, but would like to use WPA.

I've already reinstalled the drivers and utilities for ASUS, but no luck.
After switching to WPA, the link lives tries to go up for a few seconds and
then drops. At the same time, my new Lenovo laptop connects without a
problem via WPA with my AP (Thomson DSL router).

Any ideas?

Hi

If you can configure correctly the Router via wire connection and use the
Internet for a while via wired computer, it means that the Internet
connection, the Router, and the basic Network setting of your computer are
OK. There is No need to "play" with MAC cloning or any other settings that
are Not directly involve the Wireless connection from the computer to the
Router. Stay with one computer on the wire connection, and configure the
Wireless for the second computer. Start with security Off, and configure
the Wireless part of the Router through the wired computer. Once the second
computer is working correctly, switch first computer to Wireless too.

May be this can Help too.
