Can't get built in webcam to work on Yahoo Messenger

Just got three Aspire One netbooks. Two of them connect right away to Yahoo Messenger, but the third on keeps saying "not broadcasting." I know the camera works because I can get into it to take pictures. Is there a something that I should be doing to get it to work online?

Normal 0 See section B. Yahoo Messenger in the info below to setup the Audio & Video.
Also send this to your family and friends so they have there computer setup properly.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
Hope this helps. Bud

My hp mini web camera does not work

HP 2133 is a mini-computer (netbook) that comes with a built-in webcam you can use to take photos, record videos or video chat in messaging programs such as Skype or Yahoo Messenger. The built-in webcam generally fails to work if the driver is corrupt or damaged. Repair the webcam quickly and safely by reinstalling the driver from the HP website.

Restart your computer to reset the webcam driver. Go to the HP Support page (see Link Below). http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3687085&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3687084&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2094 - 7831 Click the "Download" button next to "HP Webcam" to download the webcam driver. When prompted, click "Save" and save the driver installation file to your desktop. Double-click the webcam installation driver and click "Run" to launch the installation wizard. Follow the guided prompts on the wizard to complete the installation. Restart your computer. Launch your messenger, media or photo application and test the webcam.

No sound. how do I get the audio activated?

You do not give your set-up (laptop or desktop etc)
You do not give your OS (XL or Vista etc)
You do not say what chat program you want to use

This is an example for setting up a laptop (with built in mic) and webcam (with built in mic) and Vista OS to Yahoo Messenger

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

CONFIGURE TO MESSENGER

Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

Click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Video and Voice
Set webcam mic and speakers to show Default equipment
Open Video and Voice Setup to test audio equipment
Click 'Place a free test call'
Check box 'Allow USB devices to access Messenger'
Click 'Apply' click 'OK'

You may have to tell your computer what mic you wish to use ( make it default )

Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click OK
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

CONFIGURE TO MESSENGER

make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

The sound is not working on my webcam, i have made sure that the driver is installed and everything, and that it is enable in the properties of the volume control panel.

Try setting up your audio from the beginning - I dont know your computer set up ( desk top with add-on speakers or laptop with built in speakers or your OS ) So I will give you a general example using :-
Laptop with built in mic x webcam with built in mic x Vista OS x Yahoo Messenger

Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC

To set required mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click OK
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays
Restart computer

Yahoo messenger - Webcam is not connected

You cannot access camera source until the webcam is running in Messenger - try setting it up from scratch
1) The webcam is working outside of Messenger
2) Reboot webcam by unplugging the USB connection and inserting it again - its important if its been used elsewhere and prior to chat.

Will not work with yahoo

My Lifecam vx- 1000 wasn't working on Yahoo messenger initially. After hours of researching i came across the solution that worked for me.

In "properties" limit the USB bandwidth used - by unchecking "Auto" in configuration and decreasing the speed manually (bring it down from 6mbps to 3).

This is what worked for me, hope this helps!
