I don't think you would have to clean it weekly, for me every other week or once a month works, but our water is pretty low on minerals and bacteria.

Flashing red flight

Its probably the cleaning light that comes on periodically to remind you to clean the unit. Shut off the unit AND when you do so hold down the power button for several seconds until the flashing red light shuts off. The cleaning light should stay off until the next cleaning is due.

Per the Air-O-Swiss FAQ:

Q: Cleaning light is flashing (AOS U650, AOS 7135, AOS 7142, AOS 7144, AOS 7147)
A: Switch the unit OFF and unplug it. Empty the water in the base. Rinse the base with hot/clean water. Do not submerge the base! Visually inspect the base for dirt or mineral build up. If soft water is used decalcifying the unit every 4 weeks with EZ Cal is suggested. If hard water is used the unit should be decalcified every 2 weeks. Do not forget to reset the clean light after resetting the unit.

Q: Reset cleaning light (AOS U650, AOS 7135, AOS 7142, AOS 7144, AOS 7147)
A: The cleaning light does not automatically reset. Hold down the power button (button A in instruction manual) until the light stops flashing. The light automatically comes on approximately 14 days after plugging in the unit.

Our Kenmore 50pt dehumidifer is less than 2 years old, only used for 1 summer, tried to use it last week, it starts/runs but does not withdraw any water, please help. Thanks kindly

There are 5 basic, yet solvable reason for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2.

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. If you unit is manual control,
turn the control knob to Maximum.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter. Filter should be cleaned once every 2 weeks.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder
level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

I hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Lime build up on coil has to be cleaned weekly how do i prevent so much and many times cleaning the coils is their a additive i can add or device to prevent

You could add an inline water supply filter. That would help some, since it appears you have a hard water situation. A 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water will clean the existing lime scale. Adding a whole house water softener is also a good solution.

Hope this helps solve your problem.

How often and how to clean filter

Some do it annually-- some do it 3 or 4 times a winter-
It depends upon your water, and how steady yours runs--

How many gallons do you go thru a week?

Very hard water leaves lots of scale, and the pad/filter needs to be changed much more often--

Do you like it clean and neat-- or do you not mid the build up of minerals, and mold?

We havehad this humidifier for 3 months ans have has problems with a foul odor coming from it. We have replaced the filter 3 times! Is this normal? The cost to keep replacing the filter is ridiculous. Any...

I have the same poblem with mine. I'm telling you it was the brand new filter...after about a day the odor would start. I washed the filter out with white vinegar, then a drop or two of Dawn in hot water, then rinsed in cool water. Worked fine so far. It's been about a week. good luck

I have two questions. How do I properly clean my humidifier and recently it has started coating my furniture with a white powdery film. Why has it started that?

there is some cleaning tablets you can use periodically called protec beads ... cleaning can be done using high acid vinegar soak .. then hydrogen peroxide can be used on any mold .. this unit as well as ultrasonic type models will put out calcium dust if your water has calcium added or is hard water .. calcium is often added to water to give it a good taste .. one way to keep the unit clean for a long time is to use only distilled water .. and make sure there is no calcium added .. (read the small print on the container) .. its hard to clean the fan chamber in this unit .. lots of people complain about the dust .. the wick/filter type humidifiers dont put out dust but the calcium does accumulate on the wick/filter .. so you have to change that frequently (6-9 weeks) .. yours doesnt have a wick but still needs cleaned regularly ..

How do I clean my hunter humidifier 33201? the filter blocks have white calcium? built up. I have sick kids and want it to be clean and running properly.

Soak the filters in a solution of 8 oz of white vinegar per gallon of water for about 20 minutes once per week and rinse well.

Better yet, do this once every 2 weeks, and on the off weeks soak the filters in a beach and water solution (rinse well) to keep the mold and bacteria growth from becoming a problem. I also add about a teaspoon of vinegar or a teaspoon of bleach (one or the other, not both at the same time) to the water when I fill the tank.

That helps keep the calcium scale from forming and it keeps the unit itself MUCH cleaner.

Iron/rust in water

You can use distilled water to fill your humidifier that would save your filters.
Or you can try soaking your filter in a 50-50 water and white vinegar solution to try and clean them to use again.

Good Luck.

Cleaning

I also need some information on cleaning, specifically the base. Not sure if I should use soap or if that will affect the nebulizer?
For cleaning the reservoir, just add a capfull of bleach to some water, and swish it around intermittently for about 20 minutes -- rinse until you don't smell bleach anymore.
