Question about Samsung HCN4727W 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

I am seeing doubles now. Started out on the left side.

I started seeing a double picture on the left side of the tv screen for about a week. Now I am seeing doubles on the entire screen. Now that I think back, the picture has been blurry for a while now. Almost as if it were fading.I purchased this tv at Sears in 2003 & I don't think I ever purchased a warranty. I don't know what is causing this problem. I see that there have been several other people that have had problems with this tv. If anyone knows what the problem is or who would be the best repair shop to take this tv too, I would appreciate the help. I don't have the the money to buy one of nice new tv's, besides this tv is only 6 yrs old! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Thank u for the info. My husband can solder just fine but it worries me that there is high voltage to deal with.Is this problem expensive to fix if I were to take it to a repair shop? Do u know if this is a normal problem to fix on a tv this age or has there been a recall on this model? Most of my tv's last 10yrs or more. We are looking into buying a new LCD Flatscreen in the near future, but the lifetime of these tv's are starting to scare me into not spending so much on the next tv!

Thanks Dan for all your help! We would like to try to fix it ourselves, so if u wouldn't mind, we would like to get those directions from u! My husband has worked on electronics before, so this shouldn't be too difficult for him if he follows your directions! We have the Samsung HCN4727W 47" Rear Projection TV. It seems like there are a lot of people on here having the same problem as me & they have the same exact T.V.! I'm really gonna do resaerch before I purchase another T.V. in the future! Thanks for all your help! We really appreciate it Dan! We look forward to hearing from u soon.

This is likely a convergence problem. If you can solder yuo can fix this yourself. Please note that there are potentially dangerous high voltages inside the set even when unplugged. If you wish to attempt this repair yourself, please update this and confirm the model number and I'll provide additional details and instructions.

Thanks,
Dan

If you repair this yourselves, the parts will run in the $40-$60 range. Total cost at a repair shop will likely be in the $300-$400 range which includes labor. (It may be done in the home).

Samsung HCN4727W Rear Projection TV, green screen, audio works

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai2_bing.gif,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You have 2 IC's in the convergence circuit and possibly a micro fuse that needs to be replaced. Consult a local TV repair shop.

Did you attempt to repair your computer on your own and then started to have this problem or did this just suddenly happen? Also, can you post a picture of what you are seeing?

If you have tried to adjust the convergence on your TV within the menu feature then typically you do have a convergence problem. Check out this video to be sure...

Half screen looks blurred / doubled.

Hi, convergence circuit has failed, this usually involves two STK 392-xxx Ic`s and sometimes a couple of low Ohm resistors, If you are proficient at soldering and have an accurate voltmeter and a lot of patience you can do this, If you are NOT proficient at soldering call a tech or you WILL make the problem worse, If you decide to go for it e-mail me back and I`ll tell you a good place to get the right stk`s not the cheap chinese crap you`ll find on-line, BMW Rider

Cracked screen and down screen

If the double images are located at the bottom on one side, you might have cracked the mirror inside the set and it has been displaced making the picture in that area bad (especially if the rest of the picture is OK)
