Question about HP Pavilion a1610n (882780664463) PC Desktop

Monitor only wakes up when fans get quiet. replace video card, power suppply, and tried differeint monitor, key board and mouse. turn computer off and unplug for a few days it will come on, but freezes very quickly, usually before it boots up all the way. Only thing I can think of is a bad motherboard. can you help

Check your heat sink and fan assembly. It sounds like you have a bad heat sink and your cpu is getting to hot.

Hi David,

Try removing and resetting the CMOS battery on your motherboard. Also, make sure that all connectors from power supply are plugged into the motherboard. There should be power for sys fan, CPU fan, etc.

My Dell Inspiron does not boot up only the solid amber light on the Motherboard on I try everything and still nothing works please help


Not so sure about this but I hope this will help.
-try to disconnect all the cables from the back (monitor, keyboard, mouse, usb's, power cable, etc.)
-then disconnect all the card (video card, sound card, NIC) if all are integrated then you dont have to.
-connect just the power cable
-try to turn on the computer and check if it beeps
-if it does not beeps need to replace the motherboard but before you do this check if the fan will spin even for a single second if does not spin then you also need to replace the power supply as well
-if it beeps then turn it off again.
-connect the video card and connect the cable of the monitor, keyboard and mouse
-turn on the computer then check if theres any display
-if theres no display check for any beep indication. and right it down on a piece of paper on how many times it beeps and if its long beep or short beep.

The pc turns on but no image on screen sometimes,have changed memory modules.its seeing well you restart it and then no image,but pc is on


For a desktop, first try the monitor on another computer, preferably with a different video cable. If it doesn't show a picture; the fault is probably at the monitor. Also try a different monitor on the Gateway.

If these two tests show that the monitor is bad, replace it to use your computer for now. (If it is under warranty, consider warranty repair. Otherwise we can try to diagnose the problem. (Common problems for an LCD monitor are the power supply, the backlight, the backlight inverter or the main board itself. The inverter is the easiest part to replace and can be tested with an oscilliscope or a multi-meter that can measure several thousand Hz.)

If you get a picture, try the monitor on the first computer with the second video cable to rule out a bad cable.

If there is still no picture, the next step is to determine if the computer has a video card installed or if you are using the on-board video. Many computers have both so try plugging the monitor into the other ports if there are any. (The on-board video is disabled when you have a video card in place. When reconnecting the cables, it can be easy to plug into the wrong spot.) Check if the monitor is working.

Replace the video card with one appropriate for your computer (you will need the specs for your computer's PSU (original specs - 300W) and card slot (PCIe x16)). You need a card that doesn't require more power than the power supply can put out. (Remember the CPU and other components need power too. Card specs will include the recommended minimum power supply needed to run the card.)

If you can, get a card that matches the existing video card. This will avoid a major problem. You need to uninstall the current video card drivers to put in a new one. You can try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 as you power up the computer. (This can take several tries to catch the point where the computer looks for the keystroke. You only have a few seconds.)

If you have been using the on-board graphics, get a video card. You will need to press a key (F1 or F2 for most Gateways) to enter the BIOS then disable the on-board graphics when you install the new card.

Dimension 3100 wont turns no power button light there is also an green light on motherboard cpu and power suplly fans working but wont bot up

When i trun on my computer the monitor will not work. it says Check Signal Cable


This issue can be caused by any of the below possibilities.

  1. Monitor is not on
  2. Computer is asleep
  3. Connections not connected properly.
  4. Monitor settings are not correct.
  5. No Post.
  6. Hardware issue.
Solution:The following is monitor troubleshooting. If your monitor receives a proper display until it gets into Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows ME, or Windows XP please refer to document CH000192.

Monitor is not on

Make sure the monitor is on. If no power light (green or orange light) is seen on the monitor display try pressing the power button until it comes on. If no light comes on after several attempts continue to below connections not connected properly.

Computer is asleep

If your computer monitor was on and you stepped away from the computer and upon returning it was black it's likely that the computer is asleep. Try moving your mouse, clicking the mouse buttons, and/or pressing any key (space bar) on the keyboard to wake it up.

Connections not connected properly

vga.jpgMake sure that you are connecting the monitor to the back of the computer in the 15-pin connector as shown to the right or older computer 9-pin connection.

If the computer is properly plugged in, make sure it's getting getting power.

If you are not receiving power from a known working wall outlet and if the power cord is removable, replace it with the one connected to the computer and attempt to power on the monitor again. If the monitor still does not get power or it is not removable, it is recommended that the monitor be replaced or serviced at a local TV / Computer repair shop.

If the monitor is receiving power, check the status light.

If the light is orange or flashing ensure that the monitor is not in a suspend mode by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard. If the computer does not get a display by moving the mouse or touching the keyboard, turn off the computer and monitor and reconnect the data cable from the back of the computer, and if removable, the back of the monitor. Turn the computer back on; if you still encounter the same issue, continue reading through the other possibilities.

Monitor settings are not correct

Ensure that the brightness and contrast is turned up or attempt to adjust the brightness and contrast. If adjusting the brightness or contrast has no affect on the monitor continue reading through the other possibilities.

No Post

Does the computer beep when it is powered on and/or does it appear that the computer has activity? If the computer does not beep or beeps abnormally it is possible that the computer itself is experiencing a hardware issue or is exhibiting a No Post.

Steps on troubleshooting an irregular POST or no beeps can be found on document CH000607.

Hardware Issue

If you have followed the above recommendations and are still encountering the same issue, it is likely that the computer may have either a bad video card or monitor. The best method of determining this is to do one or both of the following:

  • Disconnect your monitor and attempt to connect it to another computer. This can be a friend or family's computer and/or it can be taken to a service center.
  • Borrow a computer monitor and connect it to your computer. This will not harm the other computer monitor in any way.

If your monitor works on another computer it is safe to assume that the video card or potentially the motherboard within the computer is bad. Steps in troubleshooting a video card can be found on document CH001028.

If another monitor works on your computer it is safe to assume that your monitor is bad.

My monitor has kicked into sleep mode and won't "wake up".


Unplug all the Cables from Compaq Presario 5103 CL and leave the Keyboard, mouse and monitor cable pluged in.

Now make sure the power cable of the monitor should be pluged in and the power cable of the tower should be pluged in.

Now to check if the montor is fine just unplug the video cable only which will show no input signal on the screen. If it shows this signal the monitor is fine. Plug back in the video cable.

If the monitor is going to sleep mode it might be possible that the old computer ( Compaq Presario 5103 CL ) is in stand by mode. hit any key on the keyboard and it should come back .

If it is not in the stand by mode then do one thing. Check the same monitor with the new computer. If it is working. Perfect ..!

Do one thing now ..!

Unplug all the cables from your old system and then press the power button for 30 sec and let it go. Now plug the keyboard, mouse and the monitor try again.
If it works Perfect. If not ..!

Then you need to open the tower and check on the processor FAN is it running..? If its not running you will not get the display as the fan is responsible for the display on the screen. Otherwise...!

Check the Tower possibly the Tower is not getting the power.

Try these steps and let me know If it works

If there is no display on the monitor, then your computer is not sending a video signal to the monitor.
This could be caused by a bad video card or some other hardware problem. I would open the case and disconnect all the devices (hard drive, CD, etc. Leave only the CPU, memory, and video connected. You could leave the keyboard and mouse connected too.
If your computer then starts, you can start to add devices (after turning the computer off) one at a time.
If this doesn't work, then you are looking at replacing the motherboard or just the video card if that is possible.

Gateway gt4016 problem


Check your monitor on another computer. If it is ok connect it to your bad computer. Open the CPU case and unplug all the data cables and power cables to HDD, floppy and cd/dvd. Remove keyboard and mouse. also remove pci cards if any. You didn't mention about video card. I guess it is onboard. Now put it on an see. If nothing happens blame the motherboard.
