I am thinking of getting either the Compaq 3970 or the Toshiba E740, so I can get my email while on the move. But does this Bluetooth gimmick actually work? Will any Bluetooth phone be OK?
sure as hell i did! firstly couldn't read an ebook with media player on in the background (however apparntly there are is a fix for this), and as result would always crash. also had major problems using my SD card, ie half the time it wouldn't read, resulting in the ipaq crashing again! also did have problems with IR synching (esp when i would try and sync to another ipaq). i bought mine from singapore a bit before it was out here, so may be cause of that i had so many problems..

In message <aphoiu$1lpo@ID-72653.news.dfncis.de < You found the 3970 buggy? That's odd - I've got one and haven't found much in the way of bugs. There haven't been any OS upgrades yet, and just a single patch - to solve IR 'beaming' problems.
If you said 3870, that would be a different matter...
My 3970 works fine with my Nokia 6310i.

... with compaq 3970 and t39, bluetooth and gprs worked without a problem. very useful using internet and bluetooth, while mobile in my pocket. however found 3970 very buggy, so returned it. however these bugs may have been ironed out though by now (had the compaq back in august).

... I think he understands that since he asked about which phone. Yes, any BTooth phone that can make data connections but the faster the better obviously, so GPRS is probably better. BTW, check out the Pocket Loox (Looq? sp?) which guys in my office seem to be buying at the moment.

Bluetooth links electronic equipment together i.e. PC's, printers, keyboards etc. It can also be used to send data between PC's and handheld computer and phones. It's not used to send e-mails on the move, that GPRS. Bluetooth has to be 10 meters away from another compatible item to link.
