Brother HL 5250DN Problem

xp Home, 768 M memory, 2.6 Pentium 4. Bought above printer but had no
USB 2.0 so bought 2.0 card + cable. Loaded drivers for both new USB
card(xp compatible) and printer following instruction order exactly.
Got found new device BUT also not recognize USB device when trying to
print. So, attached USB 1.0 cable to test printer. Worked fine but
with "you can go faster" message. Plugged another device into unused
port on new USB card, worked fine. Wa the hay! Both ends of cable
connection(printer and computer ports) seem to be working but no USB
2.0 printing. Took new USB cable + printer to computer with built-in
USB 2.0, worked perfect. Cable is OK. Help please.

This sounds like a problem with the USB card, since I think I understand
that the printer is ok when connected to a USB port built into the
computer. If it were a USB hub you were using, I might suspect that it
needs an AC adapter, since some devices need it, but if it's an internal
PCI card, this wouldn't be an issue. Check the website of the card
manufacturer for tips and see if they also offer tech support.
