Disk Drive in Hp dv6000 Will play DVD's but not CD's?
I tried to burn a CD today, and recieved an error from iTunes. Then, I tried to directly copy a CD using Roxio, and that is where I noticed the problem. Roxio wouldnt even recognize the CD. I closed all programs, restarted, and put a CD in after the computer was back up. It will spin for a second or two, and then stop. A little picture of a disk appears next to the mouse pointer for a few seconds, it does this a few times. But thats it, nothing happens on the computer. iTunes wont recognize the disk, Roxio wont recognize the disk. But if i put in a DVD, it loads right up. At this point, I learned via google that some drives have 2 lasers, one for DVD, one for CD. I thought maybe the CD one just took a poop. I talked to HP support to no avail, they had me uninstall and reinstall the driver, and download another file that has filters or limits that it reset? But this is when I became confused. I put in another CD, and it loaded right up, but there is only ONE cd in my case that will load. All of the CD's i tried were purchased from a retail store, regular audio Cd's by artists such as AC/DC, Offspring. The only reason I can think that the one cd loaded was because maybe it had some extra programs on it if you put it in a pc? I did try multiple cd's, and all the cd's that I tried worked just fine in my desktop.

You may try burn by CD to CD burn but if you want to select files that you want to burn, you have to ripped the music from the Music CD by using Window Media Player 10 or higher. Or try using software that ripped music from CD.
This is the instruction of CD to CD:
1. Insert the source disk 2. Then hit burn or copy to CD on your HP CD & DVD burner software or application. Then it will be temporarily copied to the hard drive. 3. after it finishes copying the source disk, you will be ask to insert a blank CD then hit continue or OK
Please reply or respond if this doesn't work so that I could provide you another solution and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Try creating a normal CD-R for example just a picture using windows transfer which is simply double clicking your CD drive icon in my computer dragging a picture on to it then burn the files should be on the left, if so then your burner should be fine. I Would suggest using NERO to burn DVD's
Try cleaning the DVD drive with compressed air, if it still does not work try cleaning the drive with a DVD disk cleaner. if it still does not work and the software for the DVD drive has been confirmed as operational then the drive is dead and needs replacement.

Did you 'turn off' the AUTOPLAY feature of the CD\DVD ? When the player "runs two times at startup", it is trying to find the program on the disc.2nd- Look in internet for HP dv6000 cd\dvd drive replacement.(If that is the ""exact match for the product"" you wrote about) 3rd.goto CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER and look up cd\dvd and uninstall it. REBOOT, when your system comes back it will try to find the cd\dvd. If it does not, it is damaged (kaput!), must be replaced. If Windows finds the cd\dvd drive and reinstalls the drivers, but it does not work, then the heads are dirty or damaged. That Windows found the dvd\cd means that the circuit on the device works.

Ok try this DO NOT insert the media until you have completed ya assembly... then tell it to "Burn" it will then ask for the media.. at this point insert ya CD... it should be "Detected" and ya Burn should proceed.I have had this work for me before.
Also try Alcohol 120% thats a great Burner. As well as CopytoDVD...
