Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

Ps3 controller will not steer Motorstorm Pacific Rift anymore

We have two ps3 dual shock sixaxis controllers. We have been playing Motorstorm Pacific Rift without any problems since we got the game. Suddenly the left joystick will no longer steer the vehicles but and only moving the entire controller will. Both controllers work on every other game we have. There are few settings on the game and I have checked them all. Reassigning the controllers did not fix the problem. I cannot find anyone with the same problem on the web. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Give this hard reset a shot.

Flip the controller over, and press the reset button. It's to the right of the middle-top screw ps3 controller will not steer Motorstorm Pacific R - ps3_controller_reset.jpg. You'll need something like a paperclip, toothpick, or something similar to push the button. Once you've reset your controller, connect it to your PS3 with a handy USB cable, and press the PS button (just like you did when you first got the controller). Now, it is paired again, and you should be OK.

Let me know if it works.

Hmmm...the only other thing I can think of is your game data is somehow corrupt.

It's under GAME, GAME DATA UTILITY

    You should see Motorstorm there.

Just delete it and then restart the game.

OR you could take your game and controller and try it on another PS3 to see what happens. That way you'll know whether it's the PS3 itself or the controller / game.

    Let me know what happens.

    Best of luck!

I'm currently trying to play heavy rain and at the very beginning when it prompts me to shake the controller it doesn't register, ive googled ten different versions of my question and i get nothing...

Well, it's simple. what kind of controller do you have, and how old is it? the 2 Sony six axis controllers i bought with my ps3 had buttons that stopped working on them. so it is possible if it is an old controller that the sixaxis just simply "went out" BUT when psn does go back up tomorrow download the little big planet demo or pop the game in if you already have it. it uses the sixaxis to move their heads. GTA4 also has sixaxis parts to it. and you can access that in the phone menu while playing the game. But you might just have to buy another controller if yours isn't working. Hope it helps!

I restored my ps3 because my wireless controller wasn't syncing with my playstaion so I restored the hardware and now all the screen says is connect the controller via USB, have tried and reset controller...

Try to reset the SIXAXIS it is a small button located at the top of the back of the control.
If that fails, try this. Plug the mini-USB port end of the USB cable into the PlayStation 3 controller while connecting the standard USB port end of the cable to your PC.
Wait for Windows to report that it has "Detected New Hardware" and let Windows go through its full scan. When Windows says that it could not recognize the hardware, the scan is complete Download the appropriate drivers for your controller, either SIX AXIS or DUAL SHOCK 3 (it is written on the top of the controller).
These drivers can be found on several websites by doing a Google search for "PS3 Controller PC Drivers Unzip the driver files from the zipped folder to someplace easily accessible on the hard drive (such as your desktop).
Double-click the Setup icon and follow the directions given on-screen to install the SIX AXIS drivers Unhook the controller and reset your computer to complete the installation process.
Any further questions feel free to ask.

Need wireless controller with vibration mode

they don't have it. the dual shock 2 has it. but thats a ps2 controller. the dual shock 3 is a six axis controller, sony opted for six axis instead of vibration. if your lucky you may be able to find a setup to use a dual shock 2 setup to use with an wireless adapter for the ps3. good luck with that one though.

PS3 Controller will only work when plugged into the USB

I picked up the folling troubleshooting tips from the PlayStation Knowledge Center. I know it may seem silly or insulting; This is not my intention. Problems like this are usually just little things you're over-looking. Give thest tips a shot, one by one, and see if your solution is in here. If it isn't, message me back here & we'll try something else to get your controller working, ok? By the way... Is it a sixaxis controller or dualshock?
  • Verify if the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller works with the USB cable.
  • Verify that the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller's battery is charged.
  • Attempt to pair the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller to another PLAYSTATION 3 system. This helps determine whether the problem is with the system or the controller.
  • Attempt to connect another SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller to the PLAYSTATION 3.
  • Move closer to the PLAYSTATION 3 system. The maximum range for Bluetooth is 30 feet.
  • Make sure you have less than seven Bluetooth peripherals paired with the PLAYSTATION 3.
  • Unplug any other USB device plugged into the system when pairing the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller.

There might be a problem with the hard drive itself. Formating the drive shouldn't take that long unless you did the full format option.

As far as viruses go forget about it. There is NO WAY your PS3 can get a virus. It's a linux based machine with crazy encryption. ONLY Sony would be able to do something like that and that's not something they would ever do.

Your question about the 47 vs 55 is a good one. I'm not 100 sure but it's probably due to bad sectors on the hard drive, hence the long format time. Easiest thing for you to do is to swap the drives and see what happens.

Sixaxis on ps2 ???

No, it's not possible to hook up sixaxis to PS2. Sixaxis is a part of DualShock 3 for PS3 which is an optional feature in the PS3 games. Playstation 2 controllers run off of DualShock 2. So sorry, but you're gonna need a PS3 for that.

Ps3 compatiblity with vibration and rumble feature

Greeting Vikas,
You do need a firmware update to enable the Dual Shock feature on your system. On the XMB (main menu), go to Settings and click on System Update. If you have internet connected you will be able to download the newest firmware there. Here is a link to a site with all of the Dual Shock compatible games For Japan, Europe, and USA.

I had the same Motorstorm issue. Was it the Time Trial download by any chance? Unfortunately you'll have to delete the Motorstorm game data (you MAY be able to keep saved games, but I'm not certain) and then you'll find that that Motorstorm miraculously loads up again...
