Question about HP w1907 LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor won't stay on.

Everytime I turn the monitor on it will come on for about 2 seconds then it goes off - well not off but goes completely dark to where I can't see anything unless I look really close - I can tell the monitor is still on, but it's not bright. I have tried doing the auto adjust & tried changing the brightness - these both do not help. Please let me know if you can help me with this. Thanks!

When I turn monitor on, it stays on only 2 seconds, then goes dark. When I turn the monitor on, it lights for another two seconds, then goes dark. It is a MAG Innovision TCO 03 display. Thank you!

It could be two things. 1). The video card is set to a resolution the monitor does not support. 2). The monitor's power supply is bad. You can try to boot into rescue (or "safe") mode, and adjust the video card to a resolution the monitor supports. OR, power supplies usually go bad because capacitors bulge or otherwise go bad. Most monitor power supplies are hard to get, so people typically repair them. If you disassemble the monitor shell, you can see the power supply (where the AC cord goes). You can look at the metallic, cylindrical looking things with minus signs down one side, and if they look bulged on top, you can replace them. You can get replacements at mouser.com.

Monitor comes on and then immediately goes dark goes off

Your monitor's power supply is probably bad. If your inclined, you can pry apart the monitor shell and replace any bulged capacitors you see on the power supply. Replacement capacitors are available from mouser.com.

LCD monitor comes on for 1-2 seconds and then screen goes dark (power light stays on - green). Turn monitor off and back on and same result.

It sounds like you could have either a faulty VGA cable (slim chance) or a faulty graphics processor.

Try using a different cable from a friend.

Good luck!
