If the view finder is dim it is likely the iris of the lens is stuck and cannot acquire correct lighting. It need to be repaired by disassembling the lens.

Lost the battery cap for a Nikon LR550 range finder. need a replacement

I also lost the battery cap for the LR550. I signed up for an account on Nikon.com and asked how to get a replacement through the "Service and Support" section. Very delighted to report that they immediately FEDEXed a replacement part - free of charge!!!
Love my range finder, disappointed that the cap fell out but impressed with the service. Will put some tape over the battery cap from now on.

Cannot see metering in optical viewfinder

Please, what metering can you not see? The view finder has numerous items to view. If you cannot see anything is the camera turned on, is the battery charged? Next are you referring to the LCD on the camera back. If yes, please go to the Custom Settings Menu number 06, is it off? That is found on page 88 of the D80 manual. If none of that works get back with us with more information or contact Nikon.

How to brighten the viewfind on a Nikon F 100

If you think the screen is dirty then you can remove the view finder screen inside the camera from the lens opening. Also, there are other view finder screens that you can purchase. Read page 65 of the F100 manual to see how to change focus screens.

Nikon E5700 ''Lens Error''

This is a fairly common problem with Nikon E5700 cameras. Sometimes, the problem is nothing more than the lens tried to extend, but bound on something and errored out. Removing the battery for a few minutes usually clears the problem. If it doesn't, you might GENTLY push on the lens -- like pushing it back into the camera body -- with the power OFF.

If that doesn't clear it up, you'll have to decide whether or not repair is worth it. I've seen the E5700 selling for around $300 on several websites. I paid $1200 for mine when it first hit the market. So, depreciation has set in. Nikon does a good job in repair and turn-around -- and they are not outrageously expensive. I had my E5700 serviced and back in 7 calendar days a couple years ago. They cleaned EVERYTHING -- and it's worked like a charm since then. Best wishes with the fix!

I hope this helps!
Regards,
CharlieJ

Nikon E5700 digital camara. Camara turns on, everything looks good, shutter opens but only see black through the view finder, monitor and will only take black pictures. I reset camera to factory...

There is a service advisory out for Nikon E5700.

t has come to our attention that in a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 3500, 4500, 5000, 5400, 5700 and SQ digital cameras, an electronic component may, in some instances, fail affecting your camera's performance and/or operability.

While only a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 3500, 4500, 5000, 5400, 5700 and SQ digital cameras are affected by this advisory, if your camera presents symptoms that can include (1) images with a strong color tint, (2) images that are totally black and/or (3) images with visible defects, Nikon will, upon confirmation that the problem is associated to this Service Advisory, service your camera free of charge.

Nikon coolpix 5700

at the back of the camera next to the view finder (bottom right hand corner) is a button and icon marked SEL. pressing this button toggles the lens image from the view finder to the lcd screen and back again. IF neither view is available then I suspect your camera needs some TLC at a repair shop. hope this helps.
