The most obvious failure would be the mechanical timer that is behind / part of the knob used to select the cycle.

But, you may want to inspect the heating element in the sump area -- some dishwashers will wait (and wait) for the water temp to come up high.

Good Luck!

Whirlpool washer spin cycle drum banging on side

Well you have done everything that you can do and expertly tested and diagnosed. The problem is doing all the towels together. The only way to fix is mix towels with other laundry or buy a front loader because the tumbling action evens out the load better.

My 10+ yrs old Frigidaire gallery # GLTF1240AS front-loader drum won't agitate/spin

Check and see if the drive belt broke? On mechanical agitators using gears, a solenoid may fail and drive motor won't function.

Frigidaire washing machine (FTW3011KW0) runs through all cycles, agitates, pumps out water, but doesn't spin, nor does the motor attempt to spin during the spin cycle

Your main switch needs replaced. The motor that drives the switch operates because it goes through the other cycles, so the switch must be bad.

Frigidaire FDB1050REM2 Stainless steel

They weren't lyin', with the new improved energy effeciency and cleaning units they using more "soaking" times to losen food particles to use less water and clean better. And that they deffinitly do versus old units and they save more energy by doing this also. On some makes and models theywill have cycles that still use less time but also will then use some more water during this cycle. My SEARS store "blue crew" did research and found out this cycle for me.

Inherited diplomat dishwasher with my house

Today's dishwashers use less water and less electricity so the manufacturers have had to increase wash times to get good results. One hour is about normal for the "eco" cycle since it's always "sensing" the water turbidity (soil in the wash water) and water temperature, and making adjustments as necessary.
Your shortest wash cycle would be "delicate" but it might not give you the best results.

Check to make sure you heating element has not failed. Dishwashers of today heat the water periodically through out the cycle and if the element has failed. The heating delay light is the indicator that tells you that it is trying to heat the water.
