I didn't see a general user manual though.

I'll see if I can dig one up.

Best of luck!

They're pretty good about hiding their number.

Check a few of these out.

Please adjust the rating you gave me for my solution. I'm trying to get to the next support level. thx!

I did some digging and apparently there is no manual for this desktop from Acer because they were trying to cut down on costs.

    What a rip!

Please do me a favor and change the rating you gave me for my solution. Those red marks keep me from moving up in the ranks.

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Best of luck!

I need to reset my toshiba satelite A215-S4817 to factory default

toshiba satelite A215-S4817
This is a laptop not a desktop !!
Restoring factory default settings on your computer can be done within a couple of hours, without any need for the recovery discs.
First, you need to back up any data and information that you want to keep, such as documents, pictures, and downloaded email, since everything will be erased from your hard drive after restoring the factory settings on your computer.
If you haven't restored factory settings on your machine before, do not worry.
With proper instruction, you can have your computer back to its original state within a few hours at most.

Restart your computer and proceed to Step 2 before Windows begins to load after reboot.
If you are restoring a Toshiba model, hold down the "0" (zero) key as you turn off the machine, then skip to step three.
2
Access your computer's "PC Recovery" feature by entering the correct button(s) for your machine.
This button varies, depending on the make of your machine.
HP and Dell users will hit the "F11" key, whereas Acer and Sony users will enter "F10."
If you own a Samsung model, use "F4."
3
Select "Destructive Recovery," or "Restore Original Factory Image," from the list of options that appear on the next screen, then click "Continue."
A destructive recovery will erase everything on your machine and reinstall the operating system.
4
Wait as the factory settings are restored on your computer.
Windows will require you to make date, time, and language settings on the next set of screens to follow after your machine restarts.
This process can take anywhere from a half-hour up to 2 hours to complete.

Locked out of my computer

Which Password? Bios Password?Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcome Screen User Logon Password?

Which Operating System? Windows XP? Windows Vista?Windows 7?OK,if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightened security on it so you've gotto have a password reset disk which 99% of the people who own laptops withwindows 7 fail to do. It should be one of the first things you do whenyou buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced with reinstalling theOperating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator(hopefully you didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once thedesktop appears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the iconsbigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

How to use the recovery tools cd

Good luck with the recovery cd. Most times they don't work, but you can give it a shot. You just put the cd in the drive and boot from it and follow the onscreen instructions. Most likely when you put the cd in the drive, then turn the computer off, turn it back on, the computer will most likely boot from it and start the recovery process. If not when you turn the computer on look at the screen and see which key it says to hit to Change the Boot Sequence or Boot Order, then hit that key. You have to hit the key when you see the message or it will not work and you will have to reboot and start over.

There might be instructions on the cd, so just look at the label on it.

I notice you are interested in installing a program instead of doing a complete Recovery of the system. Some manufacturers give separate cd's for the operating system and the application programs. If you have one for the application programs that is the one you want to use if you are only interested in reinstalling programs.

You can try reading the manual from HP Compaq's site.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "HP Support" or "Compaq Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for Manuals and search them for System Recovery.

Locked password

Locked Password where? Bios Password? Hard Drive Password? Windows User Account (userid) Password? And which operating system?

If it's the Bios Password, then you will need to remove the CMOS Battery and let the computer sit for a couple of hours. Then put the battery back in and try rebooting. You'll have to go back into the BIOS or Setup to put the correct date and time in but the password should be gone from memory.

If it's the Hard Drive Password, you're kinda out of luck. Hard drives are locked 99% of the time when the computer is stolen. The original owner either locked it while he had possession of it or he could have locked it remotely when it was stolen to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data. The only way around it is to have the original put the password in, or Purchase a new hard drive to put in the computer, reload the operating system, reload the drivers and reload application programs.

If it's the Windows Password for User Account turn off the computer, then turn it on and immediately start hitting the F8 key until you see the SAFE MODE Option. Take the Safe Mode option to boot the computer. When it comes to the login screen it will show you the Administrator account and the Account for which you forgot or don't know the password. Log into the Administrator account (hopefully you didn't password protect it and forgot it). When windows desktop comes up click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts. When the User Accounts window opens up click on the User Account for which you forgot the password then select Remove Password. Reboot the machine

Does a new computer i bought yesterday come with a user manuel ? I have a ACER EA3910 Harry

Hi, The new computers that you purchase would not come with a hardcopy of the user manual however you would find a quick start guide that would help you setup the computer.Once you have setup the computer and logged onto Windows you could find softcopy of the User manual. Please follow the below steps to locate the user manual:- Click on Start-->All Programs-->Acer Documentation-->Acer User Manual You could also download a softcopy of the User manual from the Acer website by visiting the below mentioned website:- http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers From here you could select the type of computer and model number of the computer and then download a softcopy of the user manual. Thank you for your time and best wishes for your effort.

I just bought a new HP Pavillion p6320f. Several times after downloading microsoft updates and restarting, the computer would simply not go to the desktop after showing the Starting Windows screen. Even...

My advice would be since you been onto HP tech, is either get hold of your copy of the operating system cd, and boot from CD and enter the windows CD key which should be on a sticker somewhere, and start a fresh without any of the so called bloatware that comes preinstalled on the machine, which may be causing problems with long boot up times and causing windows updates problems. If you can't get hold of the CD, of the operating system cd or wasn't supplied one, ring HP and they may supply you with one, but big companies don't like to hand them out. But worth a try. Alternativaly, get hold of a copy from someone else, but use your Windows licence key to install, otherwise it's illegal. Then you would have to go to HP website and seek out drivers for your system, look for support/drivers and you should be able to put you PC model number in and get to the page with the drivers you need.
Alternatively, remove all HP related software from add/remove programs within the control panel, and anything else that was preinstalled that you dont use. and see if that resolves the problem.
But I'd go for the first option personally as you wont have all the HP garbage installed, but just a fresh installation, and hopefully a speedy top notch pc.
Note... Make factory restore recovery CD's before doing any of this, should be an option in the start menu somewhere check your manual/user guide. THIS IS IMPORTANT just in case you send it back.

I bought a computer of ebay and i need a password to log in and i don't know what the password is so how can i change it or reboot the whole system????

If the desktop is prompting you for a password as soon as you turn it on, before the operating system even boots up, then that is a BIOS-level password. Easiest way to clear that one is to open up the machine and look for a jumper on the motherboard labelled PASSWD or CLEAR. TURN OFF the computer, place a shunt over that jumper to connect the two pins, then turn it back on. That will clear the password for you. Good luck!!
