I recently installed a new hard drive and made a clean install of Win
98SE. I also purchased a Hi Val CD-RW (4x4x24)and have used it with Nero
with no problems to date.
However, when loading programs from original disks, I have experienced the
following: Disk X no problem. Disk Y, error message saying the drive is
not ready and does not recognize the drive letter. This has happened with
2 disks from the same software program. I also cannot access the drive
from either Windows Explorer or the Start-Run method.
Can somebody tell me what to do in this case?
Thanks

Dear bigsmiles2,
Thanks for the info on reserving the drive letters in Control Panel; will
do. Any thoughts on why the drive reads some disks (including disks from
the same program) and not others?

you need to reserve your drive letters, to do this go into the control
panel, system, divice manager, cdrom, and go into the settings of each
dive and where it says reserve drive letters enter int he proper drive
letter for the device, this way you will not have any drive letter
conflicts.
