depending of model number the chassis needs to be tilted up so bottom of board is facing rear of set----resistors should be tested with a meter---both chips should be replaced and any of the resistors (most will be 5.6 ohm in value).
Not hard if you can get at and are able to unsolder the 18 pins on each of the 2 chips--the kit should have come with instructions?
I have solve the problem myself by going to channel install on the menu and advancing the channels with the right key on the channel line rather than using the channel up/down buttons. Which is partly my stupidity and the Tech at Philips failed to tell me. I was just racking my head and stated trying different things until I discovered the real solution. Besides at my age I have forgotten more things than ever learned!
For the majority of phillips/magnavox universal remotes: Hold code search button down till red light satys on. Press the tv button and the red light should blink and stay lit. With the tv on, push the power button repeatedly until the tv turns off.(dont push the power button again after the tv turns off or it will go to the next code). Push the mute button to save the setting.
