I have a duo therm roof mounted system on my RV. A couple of days ago it quit working altogether. I replaced the thermostat and relay controller box but that did not wrok. When I go to turn the system on, all I get is a clicking noise coming from the relay controller box. The compressor will not even make a noise. Also, the fan will not come on if I try to turn it on from the thermostat box. Could it be that the starter capacitor for the motor and the capacitor for the compressor is bad? Or is the compressor frozen up. And if it is, would it be better for me to buy a new ac system.

    Thanks for your help,

    Craig

It sounds like the compressor is locked up. You can try a start boost or hard start kit but once this starts the compressor is on it's way out.

Roof Mount duo therm. Compressor kicks on fan does not. 277 to the coil 120 to the in side of relay box nothing on the out. No voltage on the tstat. No control on the tstat

It sounds like the relay box is bad, the fan should kick on when the compressor starts up. There is either a problem with the relay box or possibly the fan has a separate relay. Hope this helps, please post solved on fixya.com. So I get credit for a solved problem if it does. If not, check back and give me more info. Try and give the serial model number make and year of unit.

Hi,
Sounds like the compressor is toast...if the caps have been changed and there is voltage there, you have done all you can...replace the compressor or buy new...

Have a duo therm penguin heat pump a/c when turning it on the compressor humms but no fan. the fan gets pretty hot upon the roof after 20 sec of operation. the main hot wire to the unit is pulling 18.5...

check the cap for the fan. Will the fan start if you spin it when you hear the humming. Check the lock rotor amperage for the compressor to see if it is hung up. The cap if it is shared could knock out both the fan and comp so check both.

AC Kicking OFF Breaker

Sounds like you have a problem with your compressor. If the beaker trips the second the compressor tries to come on hen it is shorted. If it takes a couple of seconds, then your compressor is locked up.

Sounds like a bad thermostat switch, (stuck close--or in run position).

Compressor tries to start but want

hi,
you have to run a contractor grade extension cord(10-12 gauge) from your rv to run those or theyll do that, the lower the gauge the better, best bet is to plug the rv directly into the outlet, if you cant, get the shortest and thickest extension cord you can.

Duo therm roof top a/c

Sounds like 1 of 3. Blower motor capacitor, relay or thermostat. Try to run fan only if that is an option and see.
