All of a sudden when we power on the 360, it will show for a second and then disappear and will not continue to load. It is running. Sometimes the logo comes on, but then does not continue from that point.

A friend of my sons told him since there were so many problems that the warrenty was extended to 5 years. Is this true?

Try manually choosing lower resolutions in your xbox display settings. My Insignia HDTV does that when switching resolutions like on Hulu in between commercials and then back to the show but only for a second or so. Also does this when going from the loading screens to the game screens for a few seconds when playing the game Split/Second
Try your xbox on a different tv, if it continues to have the same problem, or just wont show up then there is a problem with the video output on your xbox. If your xbox is still under warranty then you should send it in to Microsoft for repairs. Warranty information can be found here: http://goo.gl/hlDQd
To troubleshoot sound without picture issues, follow these steps:
Reset the resolution of the console to 640x480. To do this, start the console, hold both triggers, and then press and hold the Y
button as the console starts. For more information about how to reset
your display settings, click the following article number to view the
article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
How to reset your Xbox 360 console display settings to the default display settings
If you see a picture on the display after you try this step, you
can continue to use the 640x480 resolution, or you can try to use a
higher resolution setting. If you still cannot see a picture, continue
to the next step.
Disconnect the VGA HD cable from the display, and then remove the console power cord from the power outlet.
Wait five seconds.
Reconnect the console power cord to the power outlet, and then turn on the console.
the VGA HD cable to the display. If you can see a picture on the
display after you try this step, you can continue to use the 640x480
resolution, or you can try to use a higher resolution setting.
Firstly check the system configuration blade on your Xbox 360 startup screen and check your display settings, if you've got an Xbox Elite/New Premium and have HDMI cable then it should be set as Intermediate/1080i/p settings, if you have the component cables then it should all be set as default.
If that isn't the problem and your games are still loading up with a fuzzy screen then there is either something wrong with the cables in your Xbox or your TV can't handle the graphics that the Xbox is producing and you will have to go into display settings and try setting them as either lower settings or higher settings depending on the TV you have.
It will help if you can provide details to me on your TV too, I'm not as good with TV's as I am Videogame Consoles/PC's but it will help me if I want to solve your queries further.
Try to take it back for the warranty if they don't let you there is a different way it's to put a towel over your xbox 360 but i don't recomend you doing that because if it gets too hot it might start a fire in your house.
there are two posibilitys to your problem it could be either there is something unpluged in your 360 or your could have a virus you should take your 360 apart and check it if it is still under warrenty through microsoft you should send it in to them and let them fix it but if it is out of warrenty then you should get the tools at your nerest radio shack and take it apart and check it out and let me know what happens
