Question about Filter Queen Majestic Canister Vacuum

2 Answers

I'm not really a technician, but I used to sell Filter Queens and was taught how to maintain them, and have tackled "fixing" some problems. I am a 71 year old great-grandmother of 8, but have good health and am very active. The Filter Queen I have is r, usedeally old, and I have kept it up. Just this week, however, I turned it on and it had a noise which sounds like something might be loose in the motor. I have always been very careful to have a clean hepa filter to protect the motor, so I know it's a mechanical problem. Since it is so old, I am tackling repair myself. I have taken it apart, used "air in a can" to blow out any dust, cleaned the inside rubber and am attempting to put it back together. The only problem I'm having is putting the three long screws which hold it together. Can you please tell me how I can manage to hold the long screw from the inside so I can put the nuts on? Thank you.

It's tricky to hold screws with one hand and screwdriver with other hand; however, I am 65-yr-old female and do it yearly with 100% perfection! Take a break, relax, and try again! I sit on floor, put attachment between legs for supporting vacuum, hold screw with left hand & screwdriver with right hand!

By the way, the rollers on my Filter Queen 1970 Cannister "moved from previous position" & not working!

I just took my old majestic apart to fix the motor
on mine, when you open the top of the machine where the exit hook up is
you take out those three screws
the top case comes off and you can get to those three screws and alot more of the motor as well

Good Luck !

How to maintain a Nilfisk Combat vacuum cleaner.

The Nilfisk combat is an excellent value vacuum cleaner, to operate at it's best though you will need to look after it.

4172375.jpg

This is really simple, first remove the hose from the front of the vacuum cleaner and drop a medium sized coin in one end and then see if it drops through easily. If it comes through with no problems then you should check your filters The Nilfisk Combat has 3 filters which need to be checked.

0341a3a.jpg
The first filter is at the back of the machine, there is a small door, open the door to reveal the filter. It is unlikely to be causing suction loss but check it and if it has a lot of dirt on it buy a new one.

388db7f.jpg

The inlet fitler can only be seen when you remove the dirt chamber, take out the chamber and look from the front of the machine to the back. There is an oval shaped hole and a small washable filter inside - give it a quick brush off and reinsert.

ae8f7d2.jpg
The Hepa Filter - this is going to be the issue 99% of the time. Now that you have the dirt chamber removed you can access the filter. Hit the button that releases the bottom trap door and let the dirt out (over a bin so you don't mess up the floor). Now you have to take the top part off by twisting the bin Lastly take the hepa filter off and check it over.

8fc62f2.jpg

There is a shroud that slides off to reveal (normally) lots of dirt and muck caught in the folds of the filter Its a messy job...but you really have to do it if you want your vacuum to work well.

19e853b.jpg
You can try to tap it out on a piece of newspaper or over the bin. Using a brush will work well too. Basically though it needs to be done every few times you vacuum or the dirt will just get lodged in there. If you have cleaned it but there is still noticable built up muck in it the unfortunately it's got to be changed Vacuumspot.com.au or NelsonVacuums.com.au both have this filter available.

d123713.jpg

The dirt canister has a built in filter cleaning function. It is only really usefull if you do it every time you empty the bin though. In the top of the canister is a big dial - really simple to use turn that thing a few times every time you empty the vacuum. It does not take the place of removing the filter and tapping or brushing it out though!.

How do you fix the pre hepa filter on the Dyson Slim DC18

Hi there,

In normal use, your DC18's filter needs to be washed at least once every 3 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing it.

The filter below the clear bin is designed to last the lifetime of the machine, and does not need to be maintained or replaced. Attempting to remove or clean this filter is likely to cause damage, so we'd strongly advice against this.

How do i get to the filer on top of the motor

Hi there, The filter above the motor does not need to be maintained - attempting to wash or clean it will cause damage. However, the pre-motor filter needs to be washed at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water, and allow up to 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it. If you have any further questions about using or maintaining your Dyson cleaner, please get in touch with us directly - you can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). I bought 2 used filter queens. Does the power head always bog down to the point of stalling out when vacuuming. Very strange for a high end vacuum.

I shouldn't. Check the power nozzle brush to make sure it's clean. Remove thread, hair, etc. that may be wrapped around the brush.
Check the tautness of the belt. If it's too tight it will cause strain on the motor, which will result in this.
Check the ends of the brush. They may need cleaned, or the bearings may need replaced.
I highly recommend taking it to an authorized Filter Queen distrubuter for diagnosis and repair.

There are instructions for replacing the brush at the following site, if you decide to do it yourself.

I got a used filter queen majestic vacuum at a yard sale and want to fix it up and start with new filters where do i get the filters and how do i change them

Hello,

Well you bought a really great vacuum cleaner. The Filter Queen's are extremely durable and very well made vacuums. They sell brand new for over $2500, so picking one up at a yard sale was a great find by you.

There are several different filters on this model that need to be replaced. Here's a link to a 6 month supply kit that we sell, which contains all the filters needed for a 6 month period:

The only other part that you should be replaced on a regular basis is the belt (only if the vacuum has a motorized power nozzle for cleaning carpets). The belt should be changed every 6 months or so. Even if it doesn't break, these belts will stretch out and not work as well as a new belt would. Here's a link to the belt that will fit your Filter Queen Majestic:

Here's a link to the owner’s manual for a newer Majestic model. This is the only one that is available online. Even though it's a newer model, the maintenance and care will be exactly the same for your model.

I really hope this was the information that you needed. If you have any follow up questions, please don't hesitate to ask them by using the comment box here on the Fixya repair page.

If this did help you, please be so kind and rate my repair helpful, or leave some feedback for me. This is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris Jones

I have to replace the power cord on my Bissell upright pet hair eraser vacuum because it is damaged from getting run over by the vacuum. Familiar story? Rather than pay a technician a lot of money, I feel...

Of course, its simple.
Use electric tape to make sure the wires never touch, usually a phillips screwdriver will do to uncscrew the machine.
just make sure you line up the cords the right way, positive to +ve and negative to -ve the negative cable is almost always the black one.
good luck

Filter queen majestic vacuum

The cone filter if put on right should collect the dirt, the tabs shoud be on the edge so when you put the top on, it keeps it in place. Wish I could help more, guess I would have to see it to figure it out. Here is a pic. of the top part, are all filters ok? There is one under the round card-board besides the one at the bottom of the motor. #18 is the filter.
