Look down at the bottom of the front panel to see if you see a couple of screws, if you see them then take them out and lift from the bottom edge. the top would then be hooked on. disconnect door switch wires before complete removal. If there are no screws to remove, then your top pops off. Use a small pry bar or good size screw driver to pry the top up at about 1 1/2 inches in from the edges.
Good Luck

Kenmore propane dryer 70 series does not lite

Hi,
Assuming the gas is on. The most likely problem is a bad ignitor. Remove the bottom front panel(pop 2 clips at the top of lower panel with a flat screwdriver) and turn the dryer on Look for the ignitor to glow. If the ignitor does not glow test leads to ignitor for power if you have power replace it. If the ignitor glows then you are not getting gas check to make sure the gas supply is on.
I hope this helps if you need further assistance please let me know.

How to access the start switch on a Kenmore 70 series dryer

The start switch on a Kenmore 70 series dryer sits directly behind the button you push in to start the dryer cycle, and it can occasionally go bad. Accessing this switch for repair or replacement is relatively simple; just follow the steps below. (These instructions were written specifically for the Kenmore 73742 heavy duty dryer, but they should apply to all of the dryers in the Kenmore 70 series.)

1. Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet.

2. Pull the dryer away from the wall so you have enough room to get to the rear side of the dryer.

3. Remove the rear access panel. This panel sits horizontally along the upper rear side of the dryer, and it is held in by six slotted screws. Put the screws aside, but do not lose them.

4. The start switch is located on the far left side (as you are looking at the rear of the dryer). It is a small black box with wires coming off of it. Disconnect these wires, but note which wire connects to which terminal for when you reattach them.

To remove the switch and button assembly as one piece, you'll first need to remove the knob from the front of the dryer. You should be able to pull the knob straight off, but if it's tight a pair of pliers might help. The round white plastic piece might come off with the knob; put it somewhere safe so you don't lose it. Then go back to the rear of the dryer and pull the black plastic tab (sticking vertically away from the switch) toward you to release it, and rotate the assembly clockwise until it pulls free from the panel.

To remove the switch from the button and housing, use a small flathead screwdriver to pry the switch up. Two of the four sides are tabbed; pry these two sides up to release the switch. There is a spring that sits behind the start button -- be sure not to lose this spring.

Kenmore 70 series dryer wont start. I was going to replace the start button but cannot figure out how to get it off with out breaking stuff. do i need to pull all the panels off?

There is a switch that sits behind that start button. To get to it, unplug the dryer and pull it away from the wall. There is a metal cover that runs along the upper rear side of the dryer -- remove that and you will see the switch behind that button. You can disconnect the wires going to it (you may want to mark them) and pull the button off of the front of the switch. Then pull that plastic tab up and the switch will pop out if you twist it clockwise.

I have a grinding sound (like metal on metal) when I turn my Kenmore 70 Series dryer on. So right now we are not using the dryer. Any solutions. I was going to open the top up but cannot figure out how to...

Your drum seals may need replacing.
Unplug the dryer.
Remove 2 screws under the lint filter flap.
Raise the hood by prying under the front top corner.
remove 2 screws from the top right and left front inside corners.
Remove the door panel by lifting up.
unplug the door switch wires.
remove the belt from the motor pulley.
remove the drum
also check the drum rollers attached to the inside rear cabinet.

Kenmore gas dryer. 70 series

sound slike something fell down there and is jamming the blower from turning. if the filter is ontop of the unit, remove the 2 phillips located under where the filter pulls out from. and the n remove all the screws on back panel youll see ( down the left side of unit ) the filter houosing, its secured by 3 5/16 screws toward the bottom portion of the housing, simply unscrerw and wiggle out, then remove the debris, and reassemble.
if the lint screen is located inside behind door, eitehr remove the bottom accesss panel or pop the top(with a screw driver approx 3 inches in from ither side of main top relaes the clips) the lid tips back revealing 2 screws holding front panel to the unit, after removing you will see the filter housing, still mounted by probalby 3-4 screws, remove the housing and retrieve the debris that has fallen down there
