Question about GE JBP24 QuickClean Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

JBP24G broiler stuck on

If the range is plugged in, the broiler is on regardless of the oven setting. Sounds like a wiring problem or maybe something with the knob. Any advice as to what to check first and how?

Thanks,
Mike

    The model number reads "J BP24G W1WH".

    Two more nuggets of data:
    - Prior to this happening, the broiler would not turn on (for about the past 6 months).
    - I just flipped the circuit breaker back on to cook something on the stove and now the range is back to being off all the time. I do not, however, trust that it will stay off, so I will flip the breaker when it's not in use until I understand what's going on.

Is there a relay that gets closed to turn on the broiler? If there is I'm starting to think that's the culprit.

I bought the control timer assembly new on Ebay for $65. Installed in about an hour, which includes time to clean behind the stove (which hasn't seen the light of day in at least nine years). It was a breeze. For those who like detail, here's a blow by blow of what I did (and what tools I used):

    1. Removed power at circuit breaker and pulled stove away from wall.
    2. Removed back panel (adjustable crescent wrench).
    3. Documented what wires went where (digital camera) and inspected all connections for loose/broken/shorted wires (didn't find any).
    4. Removed oven knob.
    5. Removed old control timer assembly, leaving the wires intact (adjustable crescent wrench).
    6. Removed overlay from old control timer assembly, cleaned it and applied it to the new one. I used a putty knife to pry the overlay. There was still enough adhesive for it to stick on the new assembly.
    7. Installed the new timer assembly.
    8. Moved wires one at a time from old assembly to new. I will note that some of the terminal locations had changed, but the labels were the same.
    9. Restored power at circuit breaker and tested everything on the range. No problems.
    10. Removed power again, re-installed back cover, pushed stove back to the wall.
    11. Restored power and re-tested everything. No problems.

Thanks very much for the help MNTECH!

    -Mike

Could you verify model number, using model number sticker from range, usually on the frame just behind the lower drawer, on the left side.

I think you are right on with your relay comment. All the relays are an integral part of the control timer assembly (part number WB27X10215). Generally, you will be able to transfer the clock overlay from the old control to the new one, so no need to order the overlay. Not very difficult to replace.

Oven does not heat

Nothing Works, or the Oven / Range / Stovetop Works Only At Certain Times:

1.Home breaker flipped or the fuse blown?Possibly an electrical surge has flipped the breaker. Check your breaker or fuse box and replace or reset as necessary.
2.Power cord plugged in?Grab the plug and wiggle to determine a good connection.
3.Power cord damage?Damaged rubber with wires showing through or the wire is being pinched can cause issues. Electrical tape is acceptable for covering damaged wires.
4.Aclicking sound could be something wrong with a relay. Check for any loose connections around the main control board on your oven. The click you hear is a relay losing power and switching back on. If the clock resets then something is causing power interruptions to the board.

I wish I had a solution for you...unfortunately I don't. However, if you know anywhere I might find a thermostat knob for this model I would be eternally grateful. I've been searching for 2 years for my mother. It's the knob with 5 settings (off, bake, broil, time-bake and clean).

Oven and Broiler coils do not heat. Control works okay. The burners heat okay. Set oven to 325 degrees. Drops to 100 degrees. There is a click. and nothing happens beyond that. Try broiler. Set to HI. Does...

There is a relay in the back panel of the stove, this is probably the problem, there is also a temp thermostat in the back leading to the inside oven this cold be bad

GE gas oven won't heat

did you do it your self or did you have some one else do it for you? I ask the question because the electricity most be unplug before you do it, If any of those wires made contact or spark. Now the safety valve it's also bad, you can test that by putting a tester for the 2 wires that connets to the ignitor to see if you are getting any power when thermostat is on. if there is power replace ignitor, if not getting power replace safety valve. Or maybe your clock is set on automatic, Set it on manual.
