In "Messaging" go into Voice Mail (number 1) and select Clear Icon (Number 3).

Go into Settings/Tools- Settings (#1)- Messaging (#5)-Notification (#1)- Change this To Icon only.

Still in Messaging, select Message Reminder (#5) and change it so it doesnt keep sending reminders.

If its telling you you have a text just go in each inbox and selcet Delete all... see if that helps.

Rumor 2 only beeps when the message is received - no reminder alerts that the message is waiting to be read

Update:

Mine does work after all. You can't make it vibrate but it will make a sound every five minutes after a missed call/text. The only problem is that the audible sound isn't very loud and I see no way of increasing the volume for it. I just assumed it didn't work because apparently it was too low for me to hear at the time. BUT IT'S BETTER THAN NOTHING!!! I'm just glad it works. Make sure your message reminder is set to "ON". Go to --->TOOLS & SETTINGS>SETTINGS>MESSAGING>MESSAGE SOUNDS>MESSAGE REMINDER> CHOOSE ON OR OFF. To test it.. Send a text to your phone but don't acknowledge or touch any buttons. Wait 5 minutes and your phone should make an alert noise. Keep the phone near you the whole time so you don't miss it. It will continue to alert you every 5 minutes until you acknowledge it.

Assigning music to ringtones and such

You have to go into the "My Audios" folder on the phone to access the card tunes. (Menu > 4(Multimedia) > 6(Audios)) for a shortcut. Once you are in the folder, move the highlight to the song you want as a ring tone. Now hit (Options > 6(Move/Copy) > 1(Move)). Now the little icon by the song will be a picture of a speaker without a memory card in front of it. (If it has a memory card icon, it is still on the card) It is on the phone's internal memory now so you can push (Options > Set As > Ringtone/Ringer ID/Message Alerts). You should be good to go!

I have an LG Rumor I keeps giving me an alert tone. I have no messages of any kind I tools/settings all alerts are set to "off". I also have downloaded the most current firmware.

As I stated earlier ... I had no messages of any kind.
I went ahead and put a message on my voice maiI.
I listened to it and then deleted it.
Since then I have not had an alert tone.
