These are defects of Brother cartridges, even you put a new cartridge the toner empty still not reset. What we are doing is re-positioning the toner end cam on the side of the cartridge. You have to be knowledgeable with the machine to to that.
The toner is leaking. The toner cartridge has two compartments, one for new toner & another for waste toner. When the waste toner compartment is becoming full to its capacity it starts throwing extra toner outside of it. That is what is called toner leaking. If you can empty the contents of the waste toner compartment, your problem will be solved. One more thing if wiping blade for waste toner is worn out, it also leads to toner leaking.
I print about 100 pages a day, and the toner light kept coming on after about 300 pages, even though I was buying brand new $70.00 cartridges. Finally I looked at the cartridge carefully and put a piece of masking tape over the hole in the cartridge through which the printer shines a light that determines there is not enough toner. Now I get 1200 or more pages per cartridge. Brother assistance was no help at all, but they must have had complaints about this before. You have to keep an eye on the print quality and decide for yourself when the toner cartridge needs replacing! Good luck! I'll never buy another Brother, although the printer is terrific, but the design is flawed.
There is a toner sensor in this printer that shoots a beam of light through the toner cartridge. As long as the toner is full and blocks the light, it sees it as being full. If it were the sensor, it would tell you this for all the toners, though. The printer also calculates how much toner may have been used and gives warnings based on that. It could be that this isn't getting reset after you change toner. You can reset the toner gage by going into the reset menu and selecting "New xxxx cartridge" and changing it to YES.
If both Lights are solid, it means that the top cover is still open and the toner is low. Please make sure the top cover is closed all the way. If the toner light is blinking and the errror light is solid, it means there is a toner cartridge error. Please try a new cartridge. If that solves the issue, then you should return the damaged one.
