All you should have to do to turn this router on is plug the power in. Check to make sure any power strips or UPS's that you (the router) are plugged into are turned on as well.

The protocol has been switched to 802.11 and needs to be returned to 802.11b. How can we do this with none of our computers able to talk to the router without internet access?

I assume you mean your router has been switched to 802.11G ONLY traffic and your network cards only support B. Only solutions that come to mind is either try using a ethernet cable to directly connect to the router and then change settings. Or try resetting the router by removing power cable then holding down reset button.. I don't recall but some software revision might have wireless on by default. The router would be named WRT54G by default with no encryption. Keep in mind resetting the router will turn all the settings to default including admin password.

First of all, can you confirm that you get internet access continuously when connected to the Modem directly? If No, I would suggest you talk to the ISP else lets try the steps below, .
So try power cycling the entire setup
1. Power off your modem 2. Power off your router
Now Switch on your modem, leave it for a minute and then switch on the router. Usually a power drain will help. I noticed that you have been switching off your router several times. Lets try this once
Alternatively, I would suggest you reset the router once and set it up again.

Base from the description of your problem and from the status of lights on your router it seems it already encounter a hardware failure and you already did a reset but still the same so sorry to say but your router is already bad and needs a replacement , so if its still under warranty have it replace from the manufacturer.

D-link dir-130 was in the process of saving settings for port forwarding, I did not receive a settings saved screen. Now I have no internet, and the router will not let me back in

Reset the router.
Push something small in the reset hole on the back, some routers need to be switched off, then push the reset and keep it pushed for about 20 seconds after you have switched it back on

Switched from DSL modem to Cable modem. Linksys

If you had your linksys router controlling the DSL connection, it was most likely a PPPoe connection requiring a username and password. Most cable companies have dynamic IP address and do not require a username or password.

Open your internet browser, IE, Firefox etc and go to >
Enter your router username and password, typically admin and admin

In the setup tab, change your connection FROM whatever is listed there and make sure it is Autumatic DHCP Save your settings, and restart the router.

You should be fine.
