Panasonic RP TV 1.3m

By Hart - usenet poster

hi,

just recently aquired the new panasonic 130cm 100 Hz rear projection
TV the other day to watch my DVDs. Just a few questions for the
experienced people out there:

- The picture seems to be cut, i mean the edges are missing, is there a
way to fix this, as i feel that i am missing out on seeing the whole
picture. ie. a way to shink the picture.

- another thing is the way to connect the DVD to the TV. Is better
to use the component connection or the s-video connection?

thanks

vic

Hi Victor,

Mine does not seem to have the problem with images cut off (seems ok with
footy scores etc.) but i noticed that the standard convergence aligment
seems to have a slight rotation on the blue setting (ie. can't line up the
blue as it is on an angle). This does not seems to affect the picture but I
would love the service codes to see if there is an adjustment for it.
I called Panasonic, but they were of no help, I guess I could enforce the
warranty bit but seeing I have an engineering background, I would prefer to
tackle it my self.( and do it properly)

Regards
Alex

There is a secret service menu that lets you do the RGB convergence.

The standard one in the normal menu only does the lining up of the screen
with the marks on the TV frame.

When I got mine delivered they went through the whole process of setting it
up corectly, it makes a huge difference.

Alex,

do you you suffer from the same problem as me - the picture's edges are not
shown? (for example, when watching the footy, the score on the top left is
slightly cut)

or is it just my TV.

another thing, how exactly are you meant to set the convergence on these
TVs, i mean there is 3 of them (green, red, blue). i understand how to do the
red and blue, but the greeni press the buttons and nothing happens.

yes, i will post any service menus from panasonic.

Hi Victor,

I have the same RP tv but without 100hz. Use the component output on the
unit it is superior to the s-video. If you find any service menus from
Panasonic can you please post it here, I would be interested in 'tweaking'
some settings.

Thanks

Alex

i have looked for this but can not find it, i guess that i will have to speak
to a panasonic guy

i was talking about the three connections at the back for video, not the
RCA.

Yeah, thanks for the warning, in the manual, it tell me to use the game mode
to prevent the "burning".

There should be a setting in the service menu to adjust the amount of
"Overscan"... check the manual, if not, ask your Pioneer service center on
how to access the menu.

Component. But make sure you're not confusing Composite with Component.

Also, try and avoid playing video games on a RPTV (Playstation etc)... the
static images found in games such as scoreboards etc can often burn the
screen in, and this would be a shame. If you must play, turn the contrast
right down and dim the lights to see better.
