I think he means that the new machine is cold fill only and is it ok to leave the hot valve just turned to the off position? If so, yes it is, although we always put a cap on the end just in case it gets knocked on! They are only a pound or so to buy.

It would be ok as long as the cycle selected doesn't have ATC (automatic temperature control) and you don't use a warm or hot water wash/ rinse.

Frigidaire top load wont fill with water, and all other functions are working

Sounds like the solenoid fill valves where the hoses connect to the machine have gone bad.

Usually, it's just a matter of unplugging the machine, turning the water valves off a the supply connections, disconnecting the hoses, opening the entire top of the machine or removing the back panel, removing the plastic hot/cold water mixing valve assembly, getting a replacement assembly, and connecting the wires to the same connections after mounting the new valve assembly.

Close it up, reconnect the hoses turn the water back on, plug it in, and try it.

MTW5870TWO washer, need to replace cold-hot switch. Do I need to remove entire back? It has dozens of plastic clips.

This issue can happen because of malfunction in mixing valves.

What you can do is:

Unplug then open the top of the machine. The fill hoses are connected to the solenoid right where they enter the machine. Turn off the water, and disconnect the fill lines. Take note of how the colored wires are attached to the solenoid. Remove the old solenoid -- usually attached to the back of the washer with two screws, Attach the new solenoid.
Attach the wires with the same colors to the same connections on the new solenoid. Inspect the hose ends and clean any debris from the screens in the hose ends. Reconnect the hoses. Close the machine. Plug it in and turn on the fill taps.

I bought a new washer and just hooked it up to the old water hoses that had been working fine. When i went to turn on the washer it sounded like it would fill but no water every came in.

First you should always replace both flexible hoses .. and replace them every five years.

A few things to check right away.

DId you try all temps? There is a 50/50 chance you have mated the cold hose to the hot inlet and the hot hose to the cold inlet on the washing machine mixing valve. Most machines have a blue and red ring denoting which is which.

Some machines have plugs set inside the inlet valve to prevent debris from getting in until installation.. obviously if these were not removed first no water would make it into the tub.

Turn the water off..dissconnect the hoses.. (have a towel or bucket nearby).. inspect the water inlets for those shipping plugs.

Run some water into the bucket to determine which hose is hot.. and reconnect to the proper inlet (Red for hot and Blue for cold) and try again

Again..If you have not replaced those hoses in the past five years.. get some new ones!

Best of luck!

Hi you have a faulty water valve that is allowing water to weep past. if the machine is hot and cold fill. turn off the hot water tap. the machine will still work with cold water only. if it stops the weeping through you know the hot valve is faulty if it does not the cold valve is faulty. just replace whichever is the culprit.

Bosch washing machine

You have a sticking water inlet valve, which is slowly letting water enter m/c.
If it is a hot and cold fill m/c, what you need to do is turn either the hot or cold tap off to the m/c, and see if the problem continues, if say you turn the hot off and it still comes into the washer, then you have sticking cold valve, replace with new one. if after turning cold off, and it still fills, then you need new hot valve fitting.
If it is a cold fill m/c only, then simply replace the cold inlet valve.
Problem solved.
Plz rate my solution.

Sporatically slow cold water fill (Kenmore Series 80)

Could be you have trapped the hose at the rear of the m/c.
If this is not the case, then I suspect you will need a new cold inlet valve fitting..
Please leave feedback.

Washer fills only with hot water

Disconnect cold water hose from machine. Inspect the filter screen on the cold water connection. DO NOT REMOVE SCREEN. If full of debris, use a spray bottle with a hard spray to remove debris. If unable to remove or cold is still slow, replace valve.

Whirlpool LHW0050PQ - Water wont empty or fill

This sounds like a plumbing problem. Lets see if we can isolate it. Turn the valves off behind the washer and remove them from the washer. Remove the washer drain hose from the stand pipe. Stuff one of the hoses into the now vacant drain line and turn the water on. Then do the other hose. Any noise? Now reconnect the fill hoses to the washer and reinstall the drain hose to its' place. Turn on the water valves at the wall, set the washer to a cold/cold cycle and start it up. Listen for noise. Now shut the machine off and set it for a hot/cold cycle and turn it on. Listen for noise. If you get no noise now, it's all good. If you're getting noise from just your hot water, your water heater is set too high and you have steam propagating in your plumbing. Your washer water valves (where the hoses connect to your machine) will only do this if you have low water pressure coming from the wall. Still, it'll be a plumbing problem.
