On our 22 month old Rangemaster Professional 110 gas cooker, we heard a loud shatter then the tinkling of glass as the pieces fell down inside the door. The oven had been used some 3 hours before. Any one know the reason for this, is it a manufacturer issue or just bad luck?
Thanks in anticipation.
Paul. I have an Indesit K3G2/G which I bought 16 months ago, I was using the oven the temperature of which was 210 it had been on for about 40mins I stepped out of the kitchen for a minute when I heard a noise like smashing glass so went into the kitchen to I check and the front pane of glass on the cooker was in a million pieces all over the kitchen floor the force that it must have come out with must have been pretty strong, I’m just gratefull that no-one was in the kitchen at the time imagine if a child had been in there it really doesn’t bear thinking about, I just spoke to Indesit an the customer service advisor said “it can happen” I wanted to say to her if the news had reported the serious injury of a child due to the this incident is that the official statement that Indesit would have give “it can happen”.

Re: Door glass shattered 3 hours after cooking
The problem is with the glass. They apparently did not use a strong enough tempered glass during manaufacture. I would call the company and tell them what has happened. They should replace it. It must have been a design flaw or something else. They should make it good. They may want to make a recall.

Be careful with glass oven doors, common problem with shattering glass doors is hanging a wet/damp towel on the handle ( as this is the best place for them to dry!) When the oven is hot! . glass is not able to handle such a extreme change in tempetures. Hope this may have answered what could of happened
Hi, it sounds like you put the door on yourself? The inner glass of my oven door (less than 1 year old) shattered when I put it in cleaning mode. We had to call a serviceman which fortunately was a part of the warranty we purchased and he said it could have been a microscopic fault in the glass, but he replaced it and it's been good to go. I've never heard of installing the door yourself for an oven, but even so, I just thought I would share our experience. It's a dangerous situation since it could shatter outwardly and hurt you or someone else so you might want to ask for a service person to come and look at it. Hope this helps!
Unfortunatey, it happens quite frequently, there is no one reason for it to do so.
The only solution is to replace it.
Over a number of years use, the glass looses it's properties, and this is what can happen.
It is quite common for this problem to occur.
There is no one satisfactory explanation for this to happen, but happen it does.
DO NOT use the oven until you have it repaired.
Contact the makers or one of their repair agents to get a new door glass fitted.
Hope this helps, and in the meantime have a nice xmas, go out and let someone else do the cooking for you..
It is not a fault with the door, and this sort of event occurs quite often, so is not uncommon.
All sorts of things can cause this, sudden change in temp, getting the glass wet whilst it is still hot, a knock or bang form an earlier time could have weakened the glass.
The list is quite long..
Depending on your household insurance, some policys cover for breakage of glass fittings, would be worth checking.
