this is a common problem most times it is the lens inside the player that is dirty and doesnt allow it to read the cd dvds you can fix this problem by going to electronics store or walmart and purchising a cd lens cleaning cd this will usually fix the problem if that doesnt work then the cd polayer will need replaced unlikely but possible good luck hope i have helped you solve this issue

Sounds like it's overheating. Does this unit have a small fan in the back? If so, does it work, or is the airflow blocked? Also, you can get 'steam' on the disc when coming in or out of the cold with it.
is your cd player loose in the dash because if it dont have supports aroud it the it will move and make cds skip... i have a jvs cd player in my lowrider tuck with fast bags and i hop it all the time and it dont skip
either need to clean the laser inside the unit,failling that the unit could be faulty,as i have had a similar problem with a previous headunit of my own and it just so happened that it was a fault with the product,,,hope that helps you somewhat.
