USB Printer does not recognize with XP Computer

In most cases, the driver for a printer is supplied when you purchase it. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to provide the driver along with the device to make sure the working.

However, most of the Operating Systems come with native driver support for many known printers. This is the fact we have to take care while purchasing a printer. Even though we misplaced the driver disc, if we purchase a good manufacturer printer, there is a chance to get the native support from Operating System itself.

There are some scenarios where printer may not be recognized by the Operating System due to some conflict with other devices.

Please follow the troubleshooting steps and check the operation:
  • Ensure that the supplied USB cable is firmly connected to both the printer and computer side.

Hp officejet v40 won't recognize new cartridge

Hello,

Your printer may need to be reset.

* Turn on your printer and re-install the old empty printer cartridges

* Wait for the printer to finish its cycle for recognizing the printer cartridge.

* Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.

* Clean your printer head and the electrical connections of the new printer cartridge. Be careful if you have already tried to install this prior since the ink may run.

* Plug back the printer into the power source and turn on the printer.

* After the printer has warmed up, do the normal process of installing your new printer cartridge.

If this doesn't work, it could be that the printer cartridge is faulty. Take the printer cartridge, its box and the receipt to the office supplies store or computer store where you purchased this and ask for a replacement, explaining the problem.

I hope this helps.

Says that the printer is not connected to the computer but it IS!! I can't print because of that.

Hi there,

This problem could be caused by any of the following:
1) The power cable you are using could be faulty - To check if it is still working correctly, make sure your printer is powered on.

2) The driver for the printer is not installed - If you have a disc that came with the printer, insert it in to the computer and install the driver from there or you can download the driver for Windows XP from HERE or for a list of other Operating Systems click HERE.

3) Once the driver is installed, the printer should already be set up but in some cases it is not. Click "Start", "Control Panel", "Printers and Faxes" and locate your printer here. If it is not there, do the following:
- On the left hand side of the window, there will be a link called "Add a printer"
9edd803.jpg
- Then follow the instructions to set up your printer correctly.

4) If the problem still persists the problem could be due to a faulty data cable. The only way to test if it is this cable that is faulty, you will need either another printer which takes the same cable and test that printer or you will need another data cable that fits your printer and then test to see if your printer works with the new cable.

Thank you for using FixYa! Have a nice day and please remember to rate this solution.

Warm regards,

Brother DCP165c Driver installation Problem

I would boot in safemode (hold down f8 immediately when it starts (when it says Starting Windows xp), then delete all printers (associated with this) in device manager.

remove any printer software as well (add remove programs or start programs (printer program name, remove software IF listed),

also remove the port you are using in device manager be it lpt or usb. if the drivers siuggests installking without it connected do so, otherwise, just restart and it shoudl start installking the hardware amnd software it finds. be sure you have the correct drivers ready as well>
Good Luck

Canon MF 4350d Wont install

Almost the exact same problem. New 4350d Canon printer trying to connect it with Dell 8300 with XP. The computer says it does not recognize. Tried everything - reinstall drivers, download drivers, tried every USB port, swapped cables, spoke with Canon support and finally took the printer back and got a new one (Canon support person decided the USB board must be bad). New machine - same old problem.

How to download unreadable disc for lexmark printer

The printer install disc may be faulty or your disc drive is faulty.
Insert the disc into a different computer, if it can be read then the problem is your disc drive.
If it is your disc drive, turn off your computer, open your computer and remove and reconnect the power and data cables on the "faulty" drive, switch on your computer, let it boot up and install the printer disc.
If it still cannot read the disc then you need to replace the faulty disc drive with a new one.
