Question about Apple iPod nano

Itunes 8.0 does not recognize my ipod nano 8GB and if i try to restore to factory settings, it says i am not connected to the internet even though i am connected. Is there any other way to download the ipod nano update software without itunes?

Unable to unlock the ipod nano 8 gb


This support document also provides additional information on locking and unlocking the iPod. According to Apple, if you have forgotten the code, you can unlock the iPod by doing the following:
Connect your iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked. If you can't unlock iPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod. If you want to change the primary computer that your iPod is associated with, do this: 1. Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. Open iTunes and synchronize. Apple also notes that company "representatives cannot unlock an iPod if you forget your combination. Nano can't be found on computer or home pc the window on nano shows needs connection even though it is connected


1. Try another USB cord or USB cable. 2. Restrart your computer for a try.
3. Reset or restore your iPod for a try, this way can fix many general iPod problems. If you don't know how to do that, you may refer to this iPod tips

Ipod nano not detected by windows and itunes


There are a couple of things you can try:

Make sure you have updated to the latest version of iTunes.

To reset your iPod:
  • 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  • 2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
  • After resetting, try again to connect to the computer
How to restore your iPod: For Windows:

THIS WILL ERASE ALL SONGS, VIDEOS, PODCASTS FROM THE IPOD AND SET IT BACK TO THE FACTORY SETTINGS
  • 1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
  • 2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
  • 3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes. If the iPod's display doesn't show "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" you may need to put the iPod into disk mode to proceed.
  • 4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
  • 5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
    • Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
    • Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
    • Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
    • Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
  • 6. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
  • 7. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
  • 8. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.

Ipod 2gb is on but completely frozen!


you can try to toggle the hold switch to on (red) then off then press and hold the middle button and the manuel button at the same time untill the apple logo reappears

Does not sync


I would go ahead and do a system restore - this is a separate method from the resetting all settings. The restore will delete all songs and hoepfully replace any key system files that may have been lost, just in case too many were loaded onto player initially.

There are also the 5 R's listed in the manual.

How to restore iPod
  1. Ensure that you have an active Internet connection as new versions of iTunes and iPod Software may need to be downloaded to your computer.
  2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes if you do not already have it installed.
  3. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
  4. After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
  5. Select your iPod in the Source panel and you will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
  6. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:

Changed computers


I'm making an assumption that iTunes was working before on the other computer, and now that you have switched computers, the Nano is not being recognized by iTunes?

How to restore iPod

If the computer is not seeing the iPod, try placing it into disk mode and see if the iPod is then recognized.

Cannot get Ipod Nano to appear in the source panel


The newer iPod nano requires iTunes 7 or later, which unfortunately requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later. You must upgrade your operating system to install iTunes so you can use your iPod with it.
