It is possible the ink with in the tube has become unprimed, example not push up to the exit point so its drawing air and never gets caught up before the error occurs. Be careful by pushing plunger inside tube due to the ink becoming "separated" from the oil and be to "liquid" for the ink pump to do its job..If it pours out like wine its to old sry.Should be as thick as toothpaste.
If your Riso is idling it is probably due to it trying to get ink into the drum. Let it finish the idling may take 3 to 5 min, then make sure there is ink up to the spout of ink tube or replace ink tube.

Check the wiring assemble connecting the printhead to the printer and where the wiring connects to the printer. Anything loose here would prevent the unit from correctly reading the sensors on the printhead. Just a thought.
