Remember the DTR must be either on or left in standby at all times to receive the EPG and programme downloads. • The guide will update at the next scheduled slot (between 11am and 12pm daily).
Updates are also quicker if you change from 14 day EPG to the 8 day version...

I had this problem aswell! I tried everything but ended up phoneing the help line, when they asked for what frequancies they found out i was picking up different ones form two different stations. I took the ariel out of the back on the freeview box and run a scan for channels (of course it came up with none as the ariel is unpluged but it overwirites and clears the incorect frequencies). Then plug the areil back into the freeview box and run a scan for channels. After doing this i picked up the correct frequencines form the correct station and my recordings actually recorded! If you phone the help line (08444159159) they will tell you what frequencies you should be picking up. I hope this qorkes for you!
Either way.... if it is the back light(s) the actual lights that light up the display... you will not get these... you will need to replaced the whole LCD panel. The inverter.. on that model, I believe it is built on to the main board... and the main board would have to be fixed or replaced.
Even knowing that your tv is an older model, you can still send it to SHARP to get an estimate on repair (1-800-BESHARP). You will have to pay for shipping it to SHARP, and they will want you to pay a $50 Evaluation Fee & $30 to cover shipping unit back to you. If you choose not to repair it.. it will be shipped back to you un-repaired. if you choose to fix it... then the $50 will go towards the repair bill.
Bummer, one month out of warranty. This is why I always recomend keeping expensive, high tech stuff under warranty.
First thing to do is buy and download the service manual from
servicemanual.net and find out what the fail code of 1 blink means.
