Hi! I'm not so familiar with this model, but I believe the V-belt is only under tension when the brush roll  control is in the "HARD" or "OFF" position. I'm not sure what the exact mechanism is, but I suspect that moving the control to the "ON" position is what places the belt under the correct tension and thus drives the roller.  Please let me know if I'm right! As for your other point, not sure what you mean by the "hood assembly cover" or why you might want to take it off. If you can clarify, I'll help if I can.

Once you get the screws out, there are very small plastic clips molded into the hood that clamp to the clear plastic. these are located on the outer edges in about the middle of the sides. get a bright light and you will see it will be obvious.

Make sure brush setting is ON (carpet) not OFF (floor).

I replaced both belts on rollers after the drive belt broke and now the rollers do not spin when I try to operate it. Is there a reset button I am not seeing?

It sounds like the belts need adjusting. The instructions that came with the belts should explain how to adjust the belt tension. Additionally check for debris around the brushes. This may be the reason for the belts breaking to begin with. Without the belts on the brushes should turn freely by hand. If that doesn't do you can call Consumer Care 1-800-237-7691. Hope that helps.

How to repair windtunnel hoover agitator that will not turn

Likely a broken belt. Also check the agitator brush roll bearings (in either end under the end caps) for hair, strong, thread, etc. as this will make the brush roll harder to turn and wear/break belts prematurely. If all these check okay, then observe the tensioning roller that causes the V belt (runs from the idler pulley to the brush roller) to be sure it is swinging down when the handle is released to hold tension on the belt, causing it to rotate. These tensioning rollers can break, but often are locked into the "Bare Floor" setting without the user noticing. Slide the carpet brush roll selector (located on top, next to the floor height slide adjustment) back and forth and make certain it is all the way into the "Carpet" setting to allow the tensioning roller to engage. [Note: The tensioning roller is always retracted (in the neutral or off position) when the handle is in the upright position. You must release the handle to allow this tensioing assembly to engage.]

Beater bar does not turn. Belt is not broken but is so slack that it won't turn the bar. Do I need a new belt or is there a way to adjust the tension?

No, once the belt is stretched and worn there is nothing you can do, you have to replace them. Here is the belts you need for your model:

I just replaced my hoover belt and it is too loose to make the brush spin. Is there an adjustment to tighten the belt

Greetings from GoVacuum,

The belt is going to be loose as long as the vacuum cleaner is in the upright posistion. If you have the vacuum cleaner with the handle locked in the upright setting, then the belt will be tight around the skinny belt. Once you release the handle of the vacuum cleaner, you can watch as the belt tightens over the roller brush. There are numerous problems with this particular model. We have recorded a very helpful video review of how to replace the belt, and do basic maintenace for this particular model. Hopefully this will help you figure out the correct installation, and other maintenance work you can do yourself.

Here's the video;

If this still does not fix the problem, and the brush is still not spinning, please feel free to email me at chris.jones (at) govacuum.com. I'm always more then happy to try and help you fix the vacuum.

Beater Bar Belt loose and bar won't turn

Provided that the motor isn't loose, the belt should fit tightly. If you had reassembled the beater bar back in the vacuum improperly, the belt would be tighter, rather than looser. If you are sure that the motor isn't loose and the beater bar was reinstalled correctly, then either tha belt slipped back off the motor shaft, or they sold you the wrong replacement belt.

Belt tension adjustment

If you are looking at the belt while the vacuum is in the upright and locked position, the belt will be loose. The idler removes tension so the brush doesn't spin while you walk away and put heat marks in the carpet. Hit the lever that allows you to move the handle low, like you are vacuuming under the bed, and the belt gets tight.

New Hoover belt nbr 385280-34 installed, belt still too loose.

There is no adjustment. As they wear they cut the groove in the roller deeper. Sure fix,and what Hoover will tell you to do is to replace the roller. If your like me though that isn't any good. so what I did was wind wax coated dental floss into the groove that the belt rides in and in and then put a couple of drops of super glue to hold the end and it works like a charm. Don't put too much in there the belt has to have a groove to ride in.
