It could be a microfuse, which is about impossible to repair. You should test the computer on an external monitor and then, when it works fine (which it probably will), you can either find a place on the internet that will fix the motherboard or you can replace the motherboard. I haven't been able to fix any of these dark screen problems in Macs, because it's usually a microfuse or the video card that goes out. I don't think it's as simple as a backlight or inverter board, which are really robust in these laptops and rarely (never in my experience) the fault.

How do i boot my mac book air in fw mode?

FireWire booting, as the name implies, is the ability to start up a computer from an internal or external FireWire drive.
FireWire booting is possible on all Macintosh models that have built-in FireWire ports with the exception of the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White) and the Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics) models. You may need to upgrade the computer's firmware before FireWire booting will work. You can download the latest firmware for your computer from the Apple Software Updates Web site at
Note: Do not confuse FireWire booting with FireWire target disk mode as described in this article: "FireWire Target Disk Mode".
If you are unsure if your computer has a FireWire port, look for ports that look like those in Figure 1, or look for the FireWire symbol shown in Figure 2.

Follow these steps to start up your computer from an external FireWire drive:

    1. Ensure the proper drivers for the FireWire drive are installed in your computer.2. Connect the FireWire drive to your computer and ensure the icon for the disk appears on the Finder desktop.
    3. Install the appropriate system software onto the disk.
    4. Open the Startup Disk control panel and select the FireWire disk.
    5. Restart the computer. The computer should now start up from the FireWire drive. If it does not, make sure you are using third-party drivers that support FireWire booting. Also ensure that the FireWire disk mounts to the Finder desktop and that the system software was properly installed. If it still does not mount, contact the vendor of the device to ensure it can be used as a startup disk.

Take the phone, computer, and cable to the Genius Bar in your closest Apple Store and ask them to look at it. This is hard to diagnose through text; they will be much better equipped to help you.

Have flashing question mark on start up dont have start up cd other ways??

You can boot from a bootable clone via your FireWire port.
Clone disk can be made from a friend's machine.
Friend's machine must be nearly identical.
Disk must have FireWire port.
Only certain brands of disk will work.
Make the clone using Super Duper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.
Hold down shift key after chime on startup to select boot disk.

Yes I know, how to fix it. Whe you have replaced the LCD, did you also unglued the backscreen sheets? The LED bulbs providing the back light are seated behind these sheets which are glued to the metal. They tend to damage very easeasily. No way to buy them if this is damaged. You will need to buy a damaged, complete back panal. But first check if the wiring is properly done. Here is the guide. LuckMohan

Intermitant failure of the firewire port

It's quite possible you have a FireWire port with hardware problems. The fix is somewhat costly, because it requires a logic board replacement. You need to bring your machine in for service.

The screen suddenly went black while connected to an electrical outlet. Nothing works.

Three immediate possibilities in order of expense:
1) Make sure the brightness is on. Press the F2 key.
2) Screen backlight could be blown out, especially if you can hear the disk seeking, fans, etc. even though the screen is black. Connect your Mac to an external display or TV using the appropriate adapters. If you get an image, you need a new backlight or LCD panel.
3) Entire machine is plotz, especially if you hear absolutely no chimes, disk movement, optical reset, fans, etc. This may indicate a power board or logic board issue.

When I plug in my Sandisk compact flash into the firewire port, my Macbook pro doesn't recognize it.

Try plugging it in BEFORE turning the computer on. I had a problem mounting my firewire external drive and when I went to this method it worked.

Good luck!!

Lcd is not working

I'd highly recommend taking into the Apple Genius bar. You've definitely damaged something. You might be lucky and one of the connectors came loose, but most likely you damaged the LCD which will need to be replaced.
