Question about Apple Mac 10.5.1 Desktop

1 Answer

Deleting I have been trying for a few weeks now to delete images and documents on my desktop. Dragging them to the trash only prompts me for a password and once I type it in, nothing gets deleted. I have tried going through the Finder, no such luck. I get an error, -43, but cannot find anywhere online that tells me what -43 is, or how to fix it.  What is going on with my Mac? I have OS X 10.5.1

Sounds like a virus or share ware contamination. If you have the Max Ox disk, you might want to save what you need and try to reinstall the OS?.

Error -43 is the common "File Not Found" error.  This can also mean a folder is not found. (A Google search for "macintosh error codes" returns a complete list from Apple at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1618.)  I don't know why it would say this unless the files really don't exist.
Dragging an item to the Trash doesn't usually require a password unless you are not the owner of the item.  This can occur when copying items from another user's account, for example.
Try selecting all of the items that you want to delete, hold down the Option key, and choose Show Inspector from the File menu.  In the Sharing & Permissions area at the bottom of the Inspector window, verify that you have permission to delete the files.  If not, click the lock icon, type an administrator's username and password, then change the Privilege to Read & Write (you might have to use the + icon to add yourself to the list before changing anything).
Close the Inspector window and delete the items.  This should do the trick.

You can either single click on the file and drag it to the trash can located on your dock or single click on the file then go to the file menu and select Move to Trash or single click on the file and click on the cmd key and the delete key at the same time. Once they are in the trash to get rid of them totally go to the finder menu and slect either empty trash or secure empty trash (this one totally purges the file and it will not be able to be recovered. Hope this helps.

How to Recover Data on Macintosh The Right Way

As a Mac user whatever you lost files from: accidental removal, formatting, system crash, virus attack, etc., DO not panic! Now, it is at least possible to recover your Mac files as long as you follow the right steps.

It is said that about 80% Mac users are used to deleting a file or emptied the Trash bin by mistake on their Mac computer or perform format option. Do you really think those files are really gone forever or are you looking urgently for a solution to recover and restore those important files, photos or documents that you need and which you've just deleted? So what should be the right things to do when you accidentally met this kind of problem?

Possible to Recover files from Mac machine in such case? YES, definitely. As matter of fact, when emptied Trash Mac, used Shift-Delete to get rid of the file, deleted it from within an application or used some other method of removing it that bypassed the bin, then it is still almost certainly recoverable. The file is still not really deleted. Although the space occupied by the file becomes available for re-use by other files, it doesn't get re-used straight away so the data it contained will stay on your hard drive for some time to come and may be recovered using software that knows what to look for.

First things first - If you have Mac machines purchased after November 2007 are installed with the Leopard operating system. One of the most important utilities of the Leopard is Time Machine. This complete backup tool can backup almost anything and everything on a Mac every hour with its unique features. Once you deleted or lost your critical files, just enter your Time Machine browser, you'll easily do Mac data rescue from Time Machine backup. If time machine has failed or you forget to set the backup, then you may need to use the third party Mac data recovery software to rescue data.

Data Recovery for Mac is a high-end Mac data recovery solution that recovers deleted or lost files (documents, videos, photos, archives, email and more) from HFS, HFS+, and NTFS, FAT file system volumes on Mac machines based on OS X. It can scan and find lost partitions, boot sectors and other file system components within internal Mac hard drive or external device. Incorporated with 3 Recovery Options like 'Deleted Recovery', 'Raw Recovery' and 'Lost Partition Recovery', the Mac file recovery software is a powerful yet comprehensive solution to recover all your Mac data in just a few mouth clicks.

But you should remember: before your deleted files are recovered from Mac, DO NOT attempt to put more files to the partition as this will decrease chances of Mac trash recovery for there might be a chance for your files to be overwritten. Overwritten, it is impossible to do mac data recovery. You should be aware of that.

How to Securely Delete Trash In Mac OSx

As you may or may not realize, when you delete something off your hard drive, it doesn't actually get physically removed from the disk. All references to it are gone, but it stays there until something else is written over it. For private documents this is a bad situation because someone with special software can recover supposedly deleted files. To prevent this, you can use the "Secure Empty Trash" option which is in the Finder menu. This will take longer than the normal trash emptying, because your computer is actually writing nonsense data over the top of your deleted files. To access this, simply open Finder and look on the top left and click Finder. From the dialog box that comes up, choose "Secure EmptyTrash". Now the data will be overwritten and will be unrecoverable. I made a video showing how this is done if you need to see it. Click the link to see the video.

Mac mini desk top can not click

You can access your desktop as though it were any other folder and thus delete its contents however you'd care to.

In Finder, go to the File Menu > New Finder Window. It should automatically open your user folder and show Application, Desktop, Documents, etc. From there, simply open the Desktop folder and delete the files.
If any other window is opened, click on Mac HD > Users > [your user name here] > Desktop and do the same.
