Panasonic 29 crt tv problems with the geometry

If there is a picture geometry problem, you have to check its Pin Amp section circuit inside the circuit board for any damaged component/s. If this section have any fault, the picture geometry will be distorted. Before adjusting the picture geometry after entering its service mode settings, you have to check this section first. If you want to know how to enter the service mode option window to this set, check this link.

The picture on my Sony is shaped like an hour glass

There is an apparatus on the back of your picture tube called a yoke. This distributes your picture on your pic tube uniformly. If this or the circuits enabling it malfunction, then you will get distortion-namely an hour glass shape.Tv has to be trouble shooted.

Is a picture tube the same thing as a tv lamp

No! the lamp restores the back light on the screen so it is visible. The picture tube is a large bell that generates high voltage and with the aid of circuitry produces a picture.

Green screen and distorted picture sound is good but no picture

It must be connected with the color circuit of your tv, a board connected to back end of the tube. Could be dust, cob web or carbon deposit shorting a transistor. Popping noise if loud enough can be attributed to high voltage circuit fault and picture tube.

Have it service by a qualified person.

Is my picture tube going?

Hi there yes this is a common problem with old tube tv's and yes eventually stuff seems to break down there is not alot you can really do about it to be honest ...my suggestion is that this is lifes way of saying upgrade ...this tv has done well ....if your looking to upgrade i would suggest going to a Samsung LA26C450 as a replacement television or if you are not so much a fan then a KLV26BX300 as a new option ,
