Start and xbox guide buttons not working

The controller has one of two problems.
  1. The controller has something inside of it that is causing the buttons to stick and not work. To solve this you need to use a damp toothbrush and rub the controller to get whatever it is that is in it out. After doing that you will need to leave the controller out over night to dry. Do not leave the battery pack in.
  2. The controller may be broken. After long periods of use, the wiring inside the controller could become loose and the connections become disconnected. If this has happened, the controller is broken and unfeasible to fix.

No signal from PS3

Are you trying to change from HDMI to AV or vice versa?

If so, try this:

Press and hold the power button until the systems shuts off. (wait 2 seconds)

Press and hold the power button again until you here 3 beeps. Let go.

It should ask you to connect your controller via usb and press the PS button in

the middle of your controller. There will be a menu with 6 options. Try 1-4.

If no luck. You may have:

If you get no display at all but the system appears to be responding normally (outside of the display) then:

You have what is commonly known as the "Green light of Death."

It is when your system powers on and acts normally but no display. Your GPU (graphics chip) has cracked or become damaged and will need to be sent in to SONY. You can try a 3rd party technician, but this repair has a very very low success rate.

If you have a HDMI cable, plug it up, if you have AV plug it in as well. If you have both settings on your TV, be sure to have them both inserted into the system. Also, make sure that you are switching your TV from HDMI to AV and vice versa.

It should ask you to connect your controller via usb and press the PS button in

the middle of your controller. There will be a menu with 6 options. Try 1-5.

It is when your system powers on and acts normally but no display. Your GPU (graphics chip) has cracked or become damaged (it may not be because of a drop, just the motherboard going bad) and will need to be sent in to SONY. You can try a 3rd party technician, but this repair has a very very low success rate.

Neither controller ports are receiving information and I know the controllers work so it must be the console. Help?

This is down to the controller ports becoming faulty.
If you say the controllers work then the board will have failed.

you'll need to either get a dvd remote or sign into xbox live and update it. If that doesn't work, you'll need to use a transfer cable to clear your system cache and then reupdate. If that doesn't work, you'll have to try another solution. Maybe the xbox is too old.
