Question about Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

I have a Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum and it lost suction. How do I get it fixed? Also, is it possible to get a second filter for this machine?

Thanks for answering. No blockage (I did think to check that) and as far as I can see, there is no damage. I live in a rural area and not sure where to take the dyson. I purchased it dec 08. (of course, suction lost in jan 09)

took my vacuum to get repaired at Sears and they wanted to charge me $180 to fix it. When i bought it in 2008 and dyson comes with a 5 year parts and labor warranty. Sears is a rip off

OK. Lost suction almost always means blockage. You need to check all the pipework, the hose and any bits you can remove at the base of the machine - if I remember right, the DC17 has a sort of U shaped bend at the bottom of the handle that you can remove - also turn it over and inspect the clear flexible plastic tube (if it's not blocked, it can get damaged and leak). As for filters, you do of course need regularly to wash the filter that's above the cannister (wash both the blue sponge and the yellow carrier) and be sure they are dried gently for at least 12 hours before putting them back.  If you need new filters, any vacuum service shop should be able to supply them. I hope this helps. I value your feedback so please remember to rate my response.  Good luck!

Thanks for your response. Always good to know there's a real live person at the other end. Not sure what to suggest next. You say you live in a rural area, but you don't say what country (clearly this is mainly a USA site, but I'm in the UK, and obviously both questioners and solvers can be absolutely anywhere). Perhaps you could check the various Dyson websites, as several countries have a helpline where you can actually speak with someone who can talk you through your particular problem.
For what it's worth, where I work we are agreed that Dyson are tops in marketing, but we can't understand why anyone would ever buy a bagless vacuum if they've been properly advised on the pros and cons of bagged versus bagless...

Weve suddenly lost suction.

Check for clogs, and always check the filters. They need to be changed/cleaned quite often depending on how much you use the vacuum.

Those simple checks will help extend the life of you vacuum

No suction at all.

There is probably an object caught in one of the tubes. Or something by the filter.
