If it is a dark brown stain then it is most probably a blown or leaked capacitor,or maybe a burnt out processor if the mark is opposite cpu.
the easiest way to test a motherboard is with a post test device.
you could alternately test all the components in another machine.i.e. cpu, ram, graphics, to make sure the are all alright.

It's time to take the laptop to a qualified technician, for professional trouble-shooting and repair.

You'll probably need to replace the motherboard -- it's probably more expensive than buying a new laptop.

Chances are about 35% it toasted your MB 65% it didn't. REplace it and see if your PC boots and run properly. If it does the MB is more than likely good.

Computer wont start up

Nahh, ramstick cant short our a MoBo, the pc wont start and it beebs loud but no more than that, but your hands can do that if you had a lot of static electricity on you when you touched the Mobo.
Therefore always touch some metal before geting inside a pc.

Did you try to pull out the battery and put it back on the Mobo?

Well, usually each connector on the motherboard only fits in one place.I mean it just won't fit anywhere else.Look at the ends of your speaker wires and then look for a similar size connector(s) on the motherbaord.
