No offense, Tyson, but would you mind explaining your question a bit better? You wrote "when i out the power cable in it"and that really confuses me. Did you unplug the power cable or did you plug it in?

Also, how long ago did this happen? Was there anything you can think of that may have caused this problem?

If the CPU fan is not rotating, you may have a problem with your power supply.

I am guessing your system is powering on, but not showing anything on the monitor.

Try removing every thing from the computer, starting with the power cable. Then add back only the monitor and turn it back on. If it works, one of the items you left unplugged is causing a problem.

If that does not work, again remove the power cable and open the case. Remove all expansion cards other than video, disconnect all of the drive power and data cables (CD, DVD, hard drive, etc.) then plug in only power and monitor to see if you get anything.

If still no go, unplug power cable, carefully remove the RAM and put it exactly back where it came from. At this point, if you still get nothing you are down to 4 components:
motherboard
power supply
CPU
video card

If the CPU fan is still not spinning, I would suspect it is the motherboard or power supply. Get a can of air and blow out the CPU fan to make sure it rotates easily.

Let me know if you need more help.

Emachines t2042

Whenyou plug in the power cord is there any lights whatsoever on the laptop, wherethe plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of the power cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the computer is trying to boot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problemis with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and takenote of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe you have a Static ChargeBuildup. Remove the Power Cord, then Press and Hold the power button for30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in and hit thepower button to see if it boots. Maybeyour memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.Removethe Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of the memory chips. Set thechip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you knowthe memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and tryrebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put theother chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just toverify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the openmemory chip slot and try booting.

T2042 emachines audio problems

It's easy to fix this problem.

Stop using the audio chipset on the motherboard, and install a Sound Card.

They are economical, and will surpass the audio quality of that eMachines motherboard, by a mile.

The eMachines T2042 Desktop PC, uses one of these TriGem Imperial motherboards,

http://www.e4allupgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket478/imperial.shtml

Scrolling down you can see the audio is AC'97.
Not worth writing home to Mom about.

The Sound Card you obtain will go into one of those long white PCI slots.
(There are 3)

Any available PCI slot that is open, with no adapter card in it.

Here is but one example of a sound card that will work,

Desktop Lockup

Remove the cover to look at the power supply fan while it is powered on ( if needed). The fan should be spinning at a steady rate. If you observe fluctuations in the rotation, these are early indications of a malfunctioning power supply unit. As for the knocking sound, can you hear it better or determine its source if the cover is removed? It could be the fan hitting the side of the power supply or wiring. The good news is that if it IS the power supply, they are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace. Your sister may not be out of luck!
But if the light is blinking- and orange - this is definite indicator that the power supply is going. Still a good idea to replace the p/s unit and let her use it. With RAM being as cheap as it is, I'd also recommend bumping it up to 512 minimum if not a 1 GB.
