Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

Clicking noise when on menu, games and dvd's are fine

The clicking noise is just on the menu, It used to do this on all the screens but after we replaced the cables it stopped. Well, now the noise is back and the screen keeps blacking out. But only on the main PS3 menu and the stuff like internet, and other things like that.

I'd recommend a System Restore.

Settings, System Settings, System Restore.

If you have any saved games, games, etc. Then you'll want to use the backup utility with an external drive to save your info, but BEFORE you restore your old files to your system, make sure you verify the problem is gone.

Your DVD drive is bad. It's trying to focus on the disc and is bumping it as it focuses thus you hear the clicking sound - it cannot focus because there is a problem with the laser lens.

PS3 Clicking noise is associated with the hardware aspect, so that's your starting point it may come from the PS3 fan clicking, so do check out the fan if there's something that might have got stucked in between. Clogs from too much dust or dirt may also cause PS3 clicking sound.

PS3 clicking noise may also come from the hard drive. The hard drive are a bit noisy because of the mechanical parts and moving drive head when reading and storing data. Again, if the noise level is very minimal, there's no worry. PS clicking noise fro the hard drive that becomes too audible may signify that the hard drive is having mechanical problems and may soon broke down. At this point you may want to backup any data you have

I hope this helps you.

When game is inserted xbox makes a clicking noise, the screen says it is reading the game, but then says open tray and game does not load

if you have an older version dvd rom, you can tell from the white plastic cover as opposed to the chrome ones, and the likely problem is that the spindle motor or laser sled has become faulty. Best bet would be to replace the dvd rom but make sure you get the correct version for your xbox. Good luck.

Hi my name is Juan and the problem you got is with the bluray laser lens they have stopped reading games you can check this out put a cd on your ps3 and at the same time place your ear on top cover and will heard 3 clicking noises of the laser but make no noise because this clicking noise is so fine that you need to make no noise it goes click click click you will hear it but make sure you put your ear on top cover at the same time you insert the disk it takes about 3 -4 seconds for the clinking noise after you have insert the cd some lasers they do try to read and they make the disk to spin off and on some they do make the disk to spin normally but nothing happen and the solution is to replace the laser lens I am a ebay trusted power seller and I can get you one if you want to

My wii is making a clicking sound when a game is in play why?

Thats fine. Its probably a little older and if you put any more Wii channels other than the original ones, It takes memory and it needs more computing time. The clicking noise is similar to the whirring noise in a computer. It is reading the disk

Disc read error

Hmmmm, Then poissibly the motor might have a need for servicing. Because by the sounds of it, the motor isnt moving quite right inside the system. I ran into this problem with my PS1 and PS2's that i have had over the years. Motors can wear out over time and use. If your like my friends, they go through a new PS2 in a year flat, because it is used 20 to 22 horus a day by 3 different people. So yeah, they use theirs very well.

Back to subject. Anyways, if the motor is not actually doing much but clicking, it sounds like there is an Obstruction in the way of the spin. Meaning, its not getting its complete rotation every whatever amount, so it will not read the disc. The motor also has to be able to move back and forth to read the disc as you play it and if that motor goes, than you rarely can play a game all the way through.

There are usually a number of computer stores (small time) that offer repair services for a price. They can usually order the small parts and Sony lets them install those replacement parts, because like all big companies, it takes a lot longer to get things done because everyone goes there first.

When searching for a store that can help, be specific in questioning. You need to ask directly if they have any employee's who know how to service PS2's
