When you turn the oven on is there an orange glow near the burner?. If so, the gas valve for the burner is bad. If not , then the igniter isn't working

Gas oven doesnt work

Hello there:
Gas oven won't work, Ignitor is glowing Everything in the circuit must have continuity for the oven to fire up. What if the ignitor glows but the oven will still not come on? If the ignitor is glowing that would mean you have a circuit. Solution: Replace the ignitor, even if it comes on. Why? Because 99% of the time the ignitor is weak. When it is working fine it should be so bright you cannot look at it for long. If it is a mellow orange color it is bad, replace it. The only way the gas oven valve would be bad is if it is open and has no continuity. That goes for the control as well. Check out this simple diagram of how a basic gas range operates. glowbar.jpg oven ignitor An ignitor must draw at least 3.5 amps or that safety valve will not open up and release the gas: gas-ignitor-circuit.anim.5. Gas oven not lighting

Hi the problem here is the igniter. Take the floor of the oven out and then the flame spreader. The igniter will be located at the back of the burner. Set the oven for 350, if the igniter does not light then test it with an ohms meter it should read continuity. If it reads open you should replace it. If the igniter does glow it still could be bad, the igniter should glow bright yellow to the point you can't look at it. If the igniter glows orange/yellow it is bad you will need to replace it. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Mike

The orange glow you see is coming from the oven igniter. The igniter needs to glow white hot in order to light. You need to replace the oven igniter. Hope this helps.

When i turn on my gas oven sometimes it lights but most times it does not.

It is likley that the ignitor is failing and need to be replaced. If you watch thru the window when turning on, you'll see a bright orange glow as the oven ignitor heats up to ignite the gas.

Even though the ignitor will still glow bright orange, it could be getting weak and might have to be replaced.

The other thing that might need to be looked at is the flame/temp sensor. If that isn't working correctly, it's possible that you aren't getting any gas consistently to the oven so the ignitor can ignite the gas. The sensor has to heat up in order for the gas valve to open, allowing gas to flow into the oven and thus get ignited for a flame to occur.

Without the model number, I can't provide you with the replacement parts for your range. However, you can go to www.searspartsdirect.com and enter in your exact model number and get a list and price for the parts I've described. Just enter in your model number in the "find a part" search and you'll get all drawings for your range. If your model is very old, you might have to call them in order to get the part numbers and pricing.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
