Fridge side is cold bottom as well as freezer cold at bottom, but the top on both is approx 40 degrees. Looking on here and reading post we decided to check the fan in the freezer's back wall and found that the fan doesn't work. We just need direction from here.
Thanks,Carol
Before we begin, please note: Some refrigerators, in normal operation, stop the fan when the freezer door is opened. To be sure that this has not led you to misdiagnose the original problem, find the door switch and press it in as if the door were closed. If the fan comes on when you do this, the fan is not your problem. It's rare, but some models do have a fan switch connected through the door switch.
First you will need to locate a replacement fan. Sears has parts departments in larger markets or parts can be ordered from the retail store in those which do not have a dedicated parts/service location.
However, these fans are VERY common and somewhat universal. Third-party parts distributors can furnish one just as good as OEM and probably much less costly. Look in the Yellow Pages under 'appliance/parts & service' to see if there's an appliance parts outlet in your city or state.
Removal of the fan should be pretty straightforward, but the procedure can differ widely by model. A few screws usually hold the fan cover and shroud in place, or sometimes they'll just snap out if you GENTLY pry them with a dull knife or screwdriver. Once the covers are removed, the fan is usually mounted with four screws.
The electrical connector is snapped together and possibly has an interlock device to keep them from coming apart. Press on the locking device (if present) while pulling the sections of the connector apart. Remove the fan with the impeller attached.
The new motor should be similar enough to the old one that mounting is as straightforward as pulling the impeller off the old motor, installing it on the new motor at the same location on the shaft as the old one, install the motor and replace the covers.
